There's that, and also strange, almost arbitrary alterations -- the added or diminished sound effects, some weird adjustments to the score in a couple of places -- that come off as completely needless.

Probably best they don't, as self promotion is a forum no-no, but if they PM someone who frequents the thread they can post the video. I think that's okay.

Exactly! I posted it late last night and it was deleted. Hence saying to just search on Youtube. It's not hard to find. V'ger Sequence Re-cut is in the title. |

I too saw something indicating that it will be distributed by DCP, but I don't remember where that was now. I wish theaters were clearer about their sound formats. One of the local theaters for STTMP is supposed to have a THX auditorium, but which auditorium(s) that is and what movies are playing in any given auditorium is pretty much a mystery without actually going to the theater and investigating for myself. As you said the theater employees rarely have any clue. Back in the 1980/90s theaters were relatively clear about this kind of info.

I agree it's weird that theaters have gotten so cagey about advertising their sound formats. Even Dolby's own website has removed the "Find a Dolby theater" function that showed you which places had Atmos or 7.1, etc. And Auro-3D is even harder to track down. You'd think promoting that might attract more moviegoers. There is an AMC theater in my area that was renovated several years back, with Atmos systems installed in all the auditoriums, aside from the IMAX. Then a few years later, they just stopped advertising Atmos for some reason. I reached out to AMC's customer service to ask what the reason was, and they responded that the theater wasn't Atmos-equipped. I wrote back saying that it used to be. They wrote back again saying that I was right after all, and that all the auditoriums besides the IMAX had Atmos. ![]() I guess everything is so automated now that even the people whose job it is to know these things don't. Incidentally, that theater also recently stopped using its screen masking. ![]() |

So a few days ago on the Star Trek Appreciation Group facebook page, I brought up the subject of the Marching Ants on the shuttlecraft image. Many of the group's members, including some professional individuals who have worked on Star Trek in an official capacity, were not to keen on my thoughts on the subject. I have since been banned from the group.
But since this is NOT an 'appreciation group' for the film, I decided to instead make a video detailing these instances and decided to post it here. I love the film, I support the film and will continue to support this film for the rest of my life... But dag nammit I'm going to nitpick the heck out of it! |

I noticed some of those differences but was not quite sure what would explain them. The Klingon digital breakup one I found to be an odd choice and the 2001 version makes more sense if making it similar to the Epsilon 9 viewer screen signal. That shuttle just stopping is clearly an oversight and sure seems as though some corners were cut or rushed. Who knows. Perhaps the team will take note of your observations and if possible may go back and fix some of those things. |
