OT post.

Recently installed a TCL/Roku in a bedroom that is 50', a floor and several walls from my router/Wi-Fi. As such the speed of the connection was not good enough for viewing content from my Synology NAS.

Have wired connection in a close by bedroom so I procured a Wi-Fi access point device, a Netgear WAC104. Also has a 4 port giabit unmanaged switch (for connecting 3 wired devices). Setup via a browser was easy. Roku TV showed internet speeds > 100 Bbps.

Now my connections look like this :

I enjoyed the first two movies enough to own them and I am willing to give the third one a chance.

Ultimately, sequels are dependent upon financial success and I don't know how well the third installment has done in that regard.

I bet the actual wiring looks every bit as neat as that chart.

Does anyone think cracking down on shared passwords and adding ads are great ideas for Netflix ?

I'm sure most people who don't have Netflix just want ads and less ability to share the account. These are good things right?

Having a discounted ad supported option is fine.

The desire to crack down on password sharing, while understandable, will only punish families with children that go away for school and similar such scenarios. It will anger many of their customers and their attempts at restricting account sharing would likely be unenforceable, anyway.

What I read is they will alter your plan if people log in outside of your home.

That sounds like it would not happen. But, I did see a post from someone claiming it already happened to him.

It's like $2 or $3 per additional user. I only get it for my kids 2 of which are away at school and I can not wait to drop it as I have hated NF for a long time.

I dropped down to the cheapest plan available and I haven't heard any complaints from the kids.

Netflix is testing an idea where up to 2, and no more than 2, additional users can be added to an account for a nominal fee, but that is only being tested in about three countries. It is not happening in any of its major markets.

People often log into Netflix when they are away from home, so tying accounts to a single location won't fly. People log in when they are away on vacation, business trips, or when they are stuck in any kind of waiting room, and other situations, so I can't see tying account access to a single geographic location ever working for them. Device locations can be concealed or falsified, too.

If an account is paying for 2 or 4 streams then Netflix should not care where the streams are going as long as they do not cross borders. They are collecting money for more than one stream.

Only people who live with you may use your account. Watch on 4 different devices at the same time with Premium $19.99/month, 2 with Standard $15.49/month and 1 with Basic $9.99/month.
Netflix management may come to regret ignoring the disc rental business. Even with disc subs falling the disc business still makes them millions.

Them thinking streaming was the only thing that mattered is why I originally got mad at them.

^I have not heard anyone put it any better than this.

If the account holder is paying for 2 or more streams, where those streams are going should not matter one. damn. bit. The account holder paid for them.

Netflix is just trying to recoup their recent losses by punishing their remaining customers.

Like I do with all the emails I get from the various services, I've been ignoring/deleting the emails I've been getting from NETFLIX. I feel like they've either been making multiple price increases in a short period of time or are continously telling me about the same increase...

I know I pay for the top tier because I moved up to it when someone in the family came up with a complaint about not being able to get on some time ago..We watch TV series in the living room. My kids watch on their laptops in their rooms and on their phones when they are outside.

When we stay at an airbnb, I use my phone and an MHL cable. When we visit Florida, I've accessed our account at my inlaws house... I'm pretty sure they still use the account from time to time while they're down there.

Of all these uses, I'm pretty sure only the last one is not kosher...am I correct?
And if so, are they setting up something where, for a fee less than a separate connection, I can allow my inlaws legitimate access to my account?

Netflix is experimenting with an idea that allows the primary account holder to add up to 2 other users that live outside of the account holder's home for what they believe is a nominal fee. They are testing the idea in three countries outside of the U.S. to see how well it is accepted by customers.

I am not optimistic about what it will show. I would love to be pleasantly surprised, though.

Don't know how Netflix treats US and Canada crossovers. In the past folks in the US would use VPN's to watch Netfix from other countries.

I go along with more streams costing more but it just galls me they reduce the video and audio quality with the lower tiers. When the other half finishes her series I plan to cancel Netflix streaming. Just nothing there that interest me.

After watching stock slide from $701 to $210 will probably add some grey hairs to senior management.

Do you like Redbox ?

It reminds me of when I had Netflix discs by mail.

I think I even like Redbox more.

The closest Redbox is 9 miles away meaning transport would be 18 * 58.5¢* = $10.53 + rental $2, total = $12.53. Calculated my Netflix by mail cost a couple months back and my average per title was $1.92 plus there is no late fees.

* cost per mile for a medium sedan.
