Open All Hours was terrific. I bought the DVD set of the original series not that long ago and really enjoyed going through all the episodes again. However I tried watching Still Open All Hours when it first aired, but somehow I just couldn't really get into it. As good as David Jason is, I felt that Ronnie Barker's character was sorely missed.

Looking at the IMDb website, I'm impressed at the amount of work Lynda Baron has done, including some feature films too.

Default Gardeners' World and Beechgrove

This year's series of Gardeners' World started on BBC Two two weeks ago (on Friday 11th March). Each new edition is repeated on the same channel on Sunday mornings.

Earlier, I read on the Facebook page for Scottish gardening series Beechgrove, that this year's series will start on BBC Scotland in two weeks' time on Thursday 7th April. Usually, each new edition is then shown on BBC Two on Sunday mornings.

I prefer Beechgrove as it's easier to understand and is more down to earth than Gardeners' World.

The BBC prison drama, Time, that was on last year, will be coming back but in an all female prison. Honestly I love any shows that are set in prisons so I can't wait to see what they do with a different cast.

One of the greatest TV series ever made is having a radio adaptation and a new episode https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-r...pter-for-radio Desperately needs a blu edition even if an upscale. The current DVD is missing a scene and they mess up one of the finest endings by fading the song early.

One of the very few good Covid themed things was a one off BBC sitcom called Pandemonium broadcast on 30.12.20. A family sees their plans for a luxury summer holiday in America downgraded to a trip to Margate in October. Excellent cast with Katherine Parkinson, Jim Howick and Alison Steadman.

A series has been made, Here We Go, which starts tonight at 8.30pm

I'm referring to a US show, but it's on a UK channel so I hope I am permitted to refer to it here (seems like it would get lost in the US forum otherwise).

I missed the first 10 episodes, but on Friday night while browsing, I happened to look at TCM's listing on the TCM UK channel and noticed that they have started rerunning the classic monochrome Western show Maverick starring the legendary James Garner (replaced in the 4th series by Roger Moore believe it or not!).

2 episodes are being shown every weekday, with the 10 episodes repeated on Saturday and Sunday the following weekend.

I was in time to record episodes 11 to 15 this morning and have it set to record going forward, episodes 16 to 20 are showing Sunday 1 May and then episodes 21 and 22 are showing Monday 2 May etc.

I watched episodes 11 and 12 today. The first episode was an adaptation of a Robert Louis Stephenson novel(!) where the James Garner character had to charter a boat and crew to go to Midway to look at an auctioned boat which was mysteriously popular and overpriced. The second episode was a more land based tale with Maverick replacing a card dealer incognito whilst trying to prove he hadn't been involved in a robbery. Doc Holliday no less was after the main robber and initially thought Maverick was the other dealer.

As a massive fan of Rockford Files, I've never seen Maverick (until recently UK channels avoided monochrome TV completely, but that has gradually changed recently, albeit these shows do not appear on main channels).

I look forward to watching more episodes as they are broadcast.

I think my only complaint is that another 10 hours a week might be too much to fit in my schedule

Speaking only for myself, I have no problem with you posting the above in this thread Cutback. I started a couple of threads a good while back for some of the Chicago shows (one of which I'm going to post in again hopefully). This thread is for anything miscellaneous, so feel free to post anything like this in this thread. I appreciate you posting about this repeat run of some of the seasons of Maverick. An interesting choice, but a welcome one as we don't have many UK channels which show series like this (referring to Forces TV and Talking Pictures TV).

I don't check TCM's listings very often, but I'll be keeping an eye on it more often now. It's a pity there isn't a UK channel repeating Mannix (although I think on Wikipedia, it says it has been repeated on Forces TV, which I'm not sure about).

BBC 4 moving to online only.

There goes any film related shows. Very poor decision.

United Kingdom Miss Scarlet and the Duke: Season Two

I was really not sure where to post this, so I decided that this thread was a safe bet. I haven't yet seen the first series/season, but have read on Geektown that the second series/season of Miss Scarlet and the Duke is starting on UK channel Alibi on Tuesday 14th June.

In addition, I could swear there had been a Blu-ray release of the first series/season (have checked the Blu-ray.com database and there are no listings for the show.

Agreed, bad decision. I'm wondering though whether the BBC might make available in the BBC section on Sky's Catch-up TV service the repeats of Top of the Pops.

I saw in the new issue of TV & Satellite Week magazine that next week on BBC Four, the films Cat People and I Walked with a Zombie are both being shown on the same night.

TCM from this week have been running just 1 hour of Maverick and the second hour is now another monochrome Western show, Sugarfoot. Judging by a YouTube search this was released in the US by Warner Archive. I suspect those masters are being used.

Having seen some Warner Archive shows on Forces TV as well recently, it looks like they may be generating income by licensing more shows to UK channels. Which should mean hopefully more shows to come.

Regarding Mannix, Forces TV did show the first series but no more. And I think it was only repeated once at a late hour, so it may not have achieved high enough ratings, or perhaps only 1 series was purchased.

They're both permanently on iPlayer. The BBC apparently signed contracts decades back that gave them the rights to show the prints they own in perpetuity.

I'll check the listings over the weekend for Sugarfoot as it's been on my list of WAC titles I'll possibly get at some point. Don't want to get my hopes up, but I'm wondering now (and similar to what you say in the second paragraph above) whether TCM might show Bronco, Cheyenne and Lawman.

I watched a second episode of Maverick a couple of nights ago (ie. sampled a second episode), from the second season in which Adam West was among the guest stars (called "Two Tickets to Ten Strike").

It's a pity Forces TV or another, similar UK TV channel couldn't do a full repeat run of Mannix, as it's one of the best American private detective drama/action series.

Thanks for posting about Sugarfoot appearing on TCM.

Am only going by what I've found out in the new issue of TV & Satellite Week magazine, but as well as Horror Channel UK's name changing from a week tomorrow, Thursday 30th June, a couple of other channels are having name changes on the same day:

- CBS Drama is becoming RealityXtra and CBS Justice is becoming Legend.

It looks like the hours they're on air each day won't be changing (from 9 am to 6 am).

From what I can work out, "Legend" is just the Horror channel rebranded I think.

I *think* Horror Xtra will be the same content as "Legend" rehashed on a second channel.

CBS Justice disappears altogether.

On 1 July, the afternoon on RealityXtra is hours of Judge Judy (with CBS Reality being the same content rehashed), replacing the Perry Mason and The Fugitive reruns

So basically, 4 channels instead of 5, and in reality only 2 lots of content instead of 3, with most of the drama cut (probably the most expensive part of their line up, or does no-one watch anything apart from reality?).

With this and the demise of Forces TV, there seem to be no channels left (apart from Talking Pictures and I guess ITV4) showing significant content pre 1990.

There was me hoping we might get more Quinn Martin productions and/or 60s/70s drama series coming. But now we've lost it all

Oh, and Syfy becomes rebranded as Sky Sci-Fi at the end of July although initially the content there looks to be largely retained but they refer to adding more new (to the channel) "binge worthy series" and refreshing the movie collection.

cutback, many thanks for helping to sort out this confusing combination of channel name changes and changes in channel programming. Yes, that was something else which I'd read about recently, SyFy's name change. Farscape I was thinking of maybe checking out (I never saw it on it's original airing. I was (and still am) an X-Files fan back then.

Even though it's just Maverick and Sugarfoot, don't forget TCM Movies as well.

Good evening ladies and gentlemen.

Tonight's story is about Sky Arts and their upcoming broadcast of arguably the most legendary of all US TV programmes from the 1950s and 1960s, from the beginning...

The twist?

They're showing two episodes daily.

As from Monday 11 July, two episodes are being broadcast Monday to Friday.

The programme...

Alfred Hitchcock Presents!

And now a word from our sponsors...

Unless I've missed it in another sub forum... BBC4 are showing Boys from the Blackstuff Episodes 1-3 on Wednesday 6th at 22.00 with an introduction from Yosser himself - Bernard Hill.

I can only presume the other remaining 2 episodes will be on the following Wednesday.
