Best place to buy 3D version:
Region A: The Hong Kong release is OOP so Taiwan is your best option.
Region B: UK
Region Free: There's a limited to 1000 Korean edition that is listed as region free, though note that the title on screen is in German. The Indian edition is also region free, but be warned that it is audibly censored - a word is bleeped out on the soundtrack. Apparently the French edition is also region free, though the bonus disc is region locked.

It would suck to set up just for a scene and then re-set-up for the next scene. The way to do it is to browse scenes that are bright and dark and then set-up and then watch it. I would not want to get up and tinker my remote for the duration of the movie. Just me.

Speaking of...

I, Frankenstein

Mild to Medium

Pros
- This is how it's done folks on well-lit night scenes. I could enjoy the 3D by seeing them.
- Good depth

Cons
- I don't think I saw negative parallax
- No pops
- Mild to medium layering

Movie. The movie is engaging. Simple plot, nice CGI visuals and well-lit videography that kept me immersed with the story. Also, Yvonne Strahovski is here as a 3D eye candy.

100% agree. I set it up using Spears and Munsil 3D calibration disc and works for all 3D, light, dark and in between.

Just watched Dolittle 3D. The movie was better than I expected based on the reviews. This is definitely a kid movie, written at about the level of a Saturday morning cartoon, that won’t have a ton to offer to adults. You’d expect more from the talent involved, but still I found it watchable. The 3D is decent, though never amazing, it’s definitely worth owning as a collector or fan of the format. I’ve seen some people remark on the CGI.. personally I found it really impressive. Having so many animals onscreen at the same time for so much of the film definitely ate up a good chunk of the budget. The main thing I liked about this movie that I wasn’t expecting was the Victorian adventure vibe, it took a lot of cues from something like Treasure Island and similar stories. Maybe just for that reason I’ll be much more likely to watch this movie than something like I, Frankenstein.

Blind ordered the Twilight Time edition of Space Captain Harlock on ebay. Haven’t read any reviews of the 3D and not familiar with the material at all, hoping it’s good!

Space Harlock is a good movie with very good 3D, you’ll be glad you got it.

Today I used some public domain test patterns which I am glad I had a look at because the modifications to make a difference.

Highly recommend Spears & Munsil 2nd edition cal disc. It has 3D section where you wear your 3D glasses to make adjustments, really makes a difference.

Spears and Munsil is the goto calibration disc for professional and enthusiast TV calibration. I just used a couple of simple tools from an old set of public domain calibration tools to get the literal basics right. A 2 minute job for a decent TV, a PITA for VR. Spurred on by your post and a better understanding of luminance basics I was able to dial in the VR picture a little better. It's surprising how even adjusting basic settings can make a difference.

Looking for this one. I saw the 2D version in simulated 3D and was pretty impressed with the TV conversion. I can imagine how awesome the 3D version is, so I'll keep checking around. Thanks for recommending. I like it the movie.

It’s crazy this was in Anchorage Alaska this morning, then Indiana, and it still made it to my house in Florida at 4:30! I thought it may arrive tomorrow but pleasantly surprised to have it today.

I'd be up for a remake that fixes the issues so that every popout works. The pitchfork* popout though is great, but by comparison so many other films seem afraid to pop out of the screen.
