Since Obi-Wan is oddly not starting today, would have been hilarious if SNW was today instead of tomorrow.

An absolutely WONDERFUL beginning. All the spirit of classic Trek, characters that are vibrant, a sense of fun and adventure, and it brings up relevant modern issues like Trek always has. I can't wait to see where we go from here.

Anson Mount and Ethan Peck are just brilliant in their roles as we already knew, but the new cast seem to fit immediately too. Celia Rose Gooding in particular captured the vibe of Uhura very well, even though we saw so little of her. And that was a nice little surprise
[Show spoiler]with the Lieutenant
at the end!

They should of used this show as a template for what star trek used to be instead of picard and discovery.. Loved the first episode.. old school star trek and we get to find out how great pike is and anson amount plays him to boot.. . Loved him in hell on wheels.

Thought the title sequence and theme were the best of Nu Trek as well.

It was a solid first episode, which predominantly felt like classic Star Trek in its format. It even had the Captain lawyering his wisdom, which is a ST episode staple. It may have been a tad too on the nose with connecting to present day earth issues (psst.... in allegory you can trust the audience to infer your sci-fi premise is about today's social conflicts). Some of the dialogue is a bit too informal for starfleet officers, but it's not nearly as bad as Discovery is in this regard.

Looking forward to the future episodes.

I liked it. Felt like a mix of classic Trek and the new action-y stuff. Pike is infinitely more interesting than any nu Trek protagonist to date.

I still wish they tried a little harder to match the general aesthetic with the old designs just a tad more. The sets sound the same, but they look so different.

That was SO much fun. I literally just said in the Picard thread that S2 of that didn’t feel very Trekky to me but SNW, holy hell, it’s like Trek reborn. I got this warm fuzzy feeling in my chest when watching it and it’s so great to have Trek back again. Don’t get me wrongo, I love me some DISCO but it’s its own thing with its own storytelling agendas, chiefly the serialised aspect, and it’s great to get away from that but with all the same lavish production values etc.

As for the incongruent look of the ship and all the fancy tech, I’ve said it before that the basic technological vernacular is so similar to TOS that the old and new flow surprisingly well for me. It’s just that one is hampered by the effects of the time in depicting such things so I kinda imagine that TOS has all the trimmings, we just can’t see them. (The various emulations of the exact look of the TOS period within future Trek shows undoes that bit of head-canonry, natch, but then the nostalgia factor overcomes it and I stop worrying about it all e.g. the fabulously enjoyable mirror universe two-parter in Enterprise.)

I liked it and it's a good start, it's already miles ahead of Discovery, but then so is syphilis.

But apart from the main three (Spock, Pike, and No.1) I'm not feeling the crew just yet, my comments about Uhura still stand, she looks like she has no neck and has a completely different personality/demeanor, loved reserved the no-nonsense original that always looked like she had her shit together and bags of confidence (and that Zoe Saldańa did a great job of portraying)

Spocks new fiancée is nice bit of fluff! Hope she gets more screen time later

On that note what the hell happened to spocks hair?? That's possibly the worst haircut I've seen in quite some time, either they rushed him to set because they ran out of time to put the wig on or he cut his own hair, I can't believe that's deliberate!

Not sure I liked the bait and switch of
[Show spoiler]Kirk, is it a relative or just someone who happened to have the same surname?

And of course, we couldn't have a show without at least one crew member having a mandatory Starfeelt regulation non-binary haircut

6/10 overall, good start and plenty time to improve on.

I think the last time I felt quite like this was on September 8, 1966, as a hopeful high school teenager.

Really finding it hard to find the enthusiasm to watch it. After STD, Picard and Lower Decks, I don't believe for a second anyone involved have the maturity to actually write a good show. The lead actor is really good and would love to watch him in the role. But I'm already fed up of the anti-male revenge fantasy called nu-Star Trek. Not sure I could handle anymore of that crap, assuming that's what it is. After all, that's everything we've got so far from nu-Trek.

Dude, you’ve got a straight middle-aged white guy as the Captain, what more could you want!

To be fair, for the first half of the episode He was the only male there until Spock arrived on the Bridge

First episode was pretty good, definitely had some nice old Trek vibes to it instead of new Trek. Looking forward to the rest of the season.

[Show spoiler]
Spock is so dedicated to Starfleet he skips getting it on with his new fiancee. No wonder she dumps him during TOS

Have to admit, I was excited about "Lt. Kirk" but didn't think they would have the guts to bring us Kirk. And then they just bring us a Kirk, lol.

Pike rolls the second civil war, the Eugenics war, and WW3 all into one conflict, so maybe that's just a giant handwave to try and reconcile the time period.

Presumably they are much more advanced in TNG since Crusher pretty much does some handwaving to disguise people in TNG, as opposed to changing their genomes with painful shots.
