Default if a disc in a multi-disc set breaks

like you break it on accident or something ... do you have to buy the whole set again to replace it or is there a way to contact the distribution company or studio to have them send a replacement disc for a small fee?

Like if after owning the complete battlestar galactica series on blu-ray (coming soon) for say a year or two I break one of the discs ... I mean what could I do?

Probably contacting the studio would be your best best before repurchasing the entire set again.

yeah, wouldn't hurt to contact the studio just to see what they'll do.

here's a list of the major studios and their contact info:

if your studio isn't on there let me know and i'll try to track it down for you

It's really not the studio's responsible to replace a disc if you break it. But you can certainly ask...

Also, how do you break a disc? Blu-rays seem pretty damn indestructable, even with kids in the house. I find it hard to imagine that you could break one with normal usage, even if you tried.

right on both counts, as it definitely doesn't hurt to ask.

well I was paranoid about breaking one of the discs in the battlestar galactica complete series set since the set is so expensive .... but, good news! amazon has the individual season sets now up for preorder, so if I break a disc and the studio doesn't replace it, I can just order an individual season instead of the whole big thing.

Maybe you should just not break discs in the first place. I have never damaged a DVD or BD in my life.

I've never had a disc crack/break but I have had the cases damaged in box sets when I got,em,I got the X-Men 9-disc set,and each case had some very minor damage ,but the discs and artworks were in perfect shape, dont know that could happen as I definately did not drop it or anything,so I find it kinda weird, got at Bestbuy and not gonna take it back just cause of the cases, they probably would laugh in my face anyway ! I also dig the scratch resistant coating that the Blu's have since I did get 2 discs in the mail that were loose in the case when I got em'open up and thanx to the sr coating, perfect discs!

Good point. Actually now that I think about it, I have had DVDs come already scratched or otherwise damaged inside disc sets. In that case, the studio will replace them.

a few people have reported trouble with the hubs in certain multi disc releases like planet earth where the disc has been snapped due to the hubs being to tight and when they have tried to remove the disc it has snapped.

For three disc sets with the hinged double disc thing, I think the best way to remove them is to push on both hubs (one on each side) at the same time. You may find that both discs fall out when doing this which is fine. Trying to just push one hub can cause problems.
