Wonder if Kino will present the US "The Family" cut from a 35mm print or interneg (if it still exsists within MGM's archives, being UA handeled wide distribution of the 1972 release). Or I imagine they'll recut the longer, 4k restored Italian version to the shorter version and remake the titles and/or use wrong/incorrect footage that might be unique to the US version.

Aside from the opening titles, I don't think there was any actual footage unique to "The Family" cut. Just some edits and one difference in scene order. A flashback that was in the last 3rd of the film was shifted closer to the midway point.

Just learned that Kino is releasing both the uncut Italian version and the UA-edited U.S. cut (THE FAMILY). Kino also says extras will be announced soon. Trying to find out who the licensee is for this film.

with this and THE VALDEZ HORSES (CHINO) being released...

KINO is giving me hope that someday I might see LOVE AND BULLETS and BORDERLINE released to make my Bronson collection complete...

I figure Warner will eventually pull their head from their *%^$ and give us ST IVES and TELEFON....

I'd buy all four of those in two seconds flat. Who owns Love and Bullet and Borderline?

I hear it's a problem for both of them with legal rights or something....

Both are controlled by ITV. Good news is: Scorpion and Shout have worked together on releasing ITV titles such as Hard Country and Inside Moves. The Bad: The film elements for Love and Bullets and Borderline can't be located and are speculated to be ether misplaced somewhere or accidentally discarded (this situation goes for the Stepfather sequels and possibly other ITV owned titles).

It looks to be pretty much identical (so far) with what Kino said they would include. Pretty funny that they are coming out in the same month too. Either way, the more exposure this film has, the better.

Finished watching Violent City from the Kino release this morning. Easily their best release of the year. As I mentioned in the Kino thread the new 2K/4K scans both look great, just that the 4K scan can only be viewed in Italian. The Family cut is pretty beat up, but I don't think I'll ever watch that cut anyways because a few critical scenes to the plot are missing.

I haven't watch the film close to 10 years at this point, but I remember it being one of my favorite Bronson films, and that didn't change after this viewing. It's easily one of his best films, and the BEST Jill Ireland performance I've seen. I'm surprised Bronson didn't have an issue with how his wife was portrayed in this film, but she does it well. Her character is a true opportunistic and does many evil things, yet she's so kind while manipulating all these men to her whims that she even fools the audience the same way she fools Bronson.

Tell Savalas is great as the slimy mob boss who really can't see the bigger picture, and Bronson is well...Bronson. Stoic, but will kill you with a smile. The film has one of the most somber ends in a Bronson films, but it works.

Direction from Sollima is also perfection with numerous shots that remind you that you're watching an Italian film. A few of the last shots with Jill Ireland were very effective and reminded me a lot of Brian DePalma angles.

It would also be remiss for me to not mention Ennio Morricone's score. The maestro is at work here and you can tell he had fun with the score. The man truly is a legend.

Overall, my favorite release of the year thus far. Now, I hope we get some more Sollima from Kino with the likes of Revolver and Run, Man, Run as this film reminded me how great his films are.

The constant casting of Jill Ireland used to annoy me (because she is an objectively mediocre to terrible actress, depending on the movie) but as the years have gone by and the more i've re-watched Chuck's movies, i've softened to her somewhat and she's inevitably become part of the fabric of his filmography. To the point that i've, dare I say, even enjoyed a performance or two . I very much enjoyed the interplay between the two of them in From Noon Till Three. Never seen Violent City but am looking forward to 88 Films release next week.

I'm usually pretty indifferent when it comes to her. Not the biggest fan, but don't hate her either. Here I actually enjoyed her role as she plays a woman who leaves one man to go to another whenever it suits her needs. Her role reminded me a bit of John Turturro's from Miller's Crossing in terms of finding ways to get out of situations when all looks bleak. She was good in this and reminds me that I never picked up From Noon Till Three.

Does the 4k master look much better than the 2k master or not? Of course, thereīs no advantage watching the 4k master since itīs only in Italian unless you understand it.

The 4K does look a decent amount better, but it does have English subtitles. The 2K does still look really good though.

Are the English subtitles forced?

If you have indeed seen it, who is the licensor/owner of this? Who is the credited copyright holder, or is it public domain? MGM involved in this?

It's Unidis Jolly Films. The same company that Kino licensed Grand Slam and Sacco & Vanzetti.
