This post is pretty sad...

Black Mask - 1.85:1
Caligula - 1.85:1
Saw IV - 1.78:1
Saw V - 1.78:1

The difference between 1.78:1 and 1.85:1 is that when you see the screen shots, in 1.85:1 there are small, really small black bars on the top and bottom.

But, as what I think djluis2k6 was meaning, is that if we already have a properly widescreen display, isn't that supposed to take out the need for those black bars? Isn't the black bars there to properly display a 16x9 frame? So wouldn't those black bars not be needed with a proper 16x9 TV? I'm not claiming to know any better or anything, this is just the thought that strikes me.
There are 3 basic shapes of movies: original silent frame/Academy sound (1.18-1.43), Standard Widescreen (1.66-1.85), and Anamorphic (or "Scope") Widescreen/70mm movies (2.00-2.75)

There are right now 2 shapes of displays: 4:3 (1.33) and 16:9 (1.78)
(unless you count the 2.37 wide CIH Projection set-ups or the Phillips 1080 x 2560 pixel Cinema 21:9 LCD display)

So movies that are Academy will look full screen on 4:3 displays and Standard and Anamorphic Widescreen movies will be letterboxed (black bars on top and bottom) on them.

Movies that are in Standard Widescreen will look fullscreen on 16:9 displays and Academy movies will be pillarboxed (black bars at the sides) and Anamorphic Widescreen movies will be letterboxed (black bars on top and bottom) on them.

Could you possibly indicate next to each new title you add the date on which you add it?

For those of us that check this thread every few weeks, it would make it easier to find what the latest additions to the list are.

You need to clarify that Dawn of the Dead (1978) is the one on that list. Dawn of the Dead (2004) is actually 2.35:1

Glad to help you out on your "hunt." At the time I created this list, there were no such lists for my hunt so i compiled one in hopes to help those like me. Also, thanks for the contribution! I'll put it up there.

Valkyrie (2008) can be added to the list. Aspect ratio is 1.85 and looked terrific on the 50' plasma. Great movie as well. Spectacular cast.

As a side note, I wanted to make a suggestion to the author and also a comment to those who both value and ridicule this thread.

Firstly, as this is a list of films that adhere to a specific 'size' on a widescreen television, and as the author has made it a point to only add titles after which posters have confirmed the AR seen in their homes, I think the easiest way to go about double-checking any film's AR is to look it up on it's respective IMDB page. Every film will have it's AR listed under "Addition Details". This is the AR in which the movie was photographed, and as such almost always is the AR used when making the DVD/BD (I say almost because there is always the exceptions - usually foreign films or doc's - though I've yet to see one).

Second, a quick note to those who question the validity of this thread and/or the technical appreciation for the "black bars" people who want this info may or may not have.

It is very easy for those who do not understand every nuance of the process by which the 16:9 screen size was initially chosen to not explain themselves well on a messageboard when they are challenged as to why they need to have their "brand new tv screens filled". Also there is not a clear reasoning why some movies were filmed at one AR and others at a different one. Add to that the currently burgeoning increase of HD television content as well as HD movie channels and how they adjust some 2.35:1 films to be displayed at a more convenient 1.78:1, and you can easily understand how the majority of people, even film lovers, tend to place less emphasis on the issue. Threads like this are simply a comfortable and easy reference for those who may not understand the technical side as well as others, and want to know a little bit about what they're buying/renting/watching on their HD TV's. And even for those of us who know about the ratios and the reasoning, this list is still useful as a quick reference because the author has asked for eye witness confirmation in order to identify possible packaging mistakes.

Here's hoping this list continues to be updated and people continue to see it's worth.

Thank you for the post and contribution drfunk911. In case you've missed it in the thread, my list consist of user seen/contributed bluray movies that they have seen with their own eyes that were fullscreen blurays. It is the only difference between my list and a computer generated list that can find and sort blurays by aspect ratio. I found that a lot of times aspect ratios reported display differently when actually being played. I noticed you said you were at target and picked these off...I'll put them in a seperate list "to be confirmed with physical eyes..." Thank you anyways.

As for your request... the list on the first page IS the "new complete one." I'm sorry you had to look at every page? If you look at when I editted the post, it'll show that it is around the same time/date of the last post before yours. This thread has been quiet for a while, that's why it hasn't been updated/editted in a while. But with your post/contribution, it may have bumped it back to life.

Again, thanks for the contribution!

The movie that's in one of the pictures filling up the screen will have some black bars too.

I can't imagine how distracting it would be to watch 4:3 movies and TV shows on that. It'd be a million times worse than watching 2.35:1 movies on 16x9.
