There is a Japanese release, but it apparently only has Japanese subtitles:

Flaklypa (1975) - also known as 'Grand Prix'...a fantastic norwegian racing car stop motion movie.
The Adventures Of Prince Achmed (1926) - cut out silhoetted animation...this one is available on blu ray from BFI.
The Legend Of The Sacred Stone (2000) - amazing Tawainese martial arts puppet movie.
Yes, Starewicz’ Tale of the Fox (1941) is great, also Pinchcliffe’s Grand Prix did have an amazing restoration (actually partly a recreation). Also, Song of the Sea of course, A Cat’s Life, Nocturna, Moomins in the Winter Wonderland.

There’s always Nick Park’s Wallace and Gromit & Early Man. Plus the usual asian anime stuff like Metropolis, Welcome to the Space Show, Wonderful Days, Oblivion Island, Harlock Space Pirate etc

The animated Krysar (Pied Piper) from Barta looks interesting, i’m going to check that out too.

Just watched Krysar (the Korean region free NTSC dvd release from Amazon UK), excellent film. Would be nice if someone like Second Run could restore the film and put it on blu ray though

Recently saw Mission to the Moon (ie: Mnelyst i Flklypa), also known as Louis and Luca Mission to the Moon. Excellent stop motion film. While it is a new film, it is based on the same characters known from Pinchcliffe’s Grand Prix. At any rate, I’d recommend the film to those who like Wallace and Gromit’s space adventure A Grand Day Out

France ALERT: Second Ernest & Clestine film to be released in December 2022

For the fans and lovers of Ernest & Clestine out there, I'm bumping this thread to share with you that there is a new film on the way, subtitled "Voyage en Charabie" ("A Trip to Gibberitia" in English), and is coming later this year! To be first premiered in France in December, this time the feature film will be directed by Julien Chheng and Jean-Christophe Roger, the team behind the "Ernest & Clestine, The Collection" TV Series, while the previous film was directed by Benjamin Renner, Vincent Patar and Stphane Aubier. New stills were released today by StudioCanal (according to Animated Antic) and shared via Catsuka. Have a look!

For more information, check it out on Catsuka's webpage at https://www.catsuka.com/breves/2022-...ge-en-charabie (in French). Also, there's this piece published at The Wrap in February (https://www.thewrap.com/ernest-celes...el-first-look/) which describes us the synopsis, and what to expect in general from the film. Catsuka always has the best insight on the development of the independent and foreign/international animation scene out of any of the major animation news outlets I read, followed by Zippy Frames (https://www.zippyframes.com/). Let's all keep an eye out for this new entry in the "Ernest and Clestine" franchise, and let's hope it is just as good or even better than the first!

I haven't watched any of the ones you mentioned yet, I definitely should out and seek to watch them soon. However, speaking of The Illusionist...

Spain Insightful Interview with Alberto Vzquez at Animation Magazine

Yesterday, Animation Magazine published an exclusive interview featuring famed Spanish "Birdboy: The Forgotten Children" director Alberto Vzquez, speaking about his new feature film "Unicorn Wars," which is set to premiere at this year's Annecy Festival (June 13-18) before heading to Spanish cinemas later this year. A potential candidate for the R rating by the MPA, if it gets rated for its release in the U.S.!

The film, which was part of Annecy’s Work in Progress last year, will premiere at this year’s edition of the animation festival in France. Produced by UniKo, Abano Pro*ducins and Autour de Minuit, the feature is set again a terrible war between religious fanatic teddy bears and environmentalist unicorns.

GKIDS has acquired the North American distribution rights to Unicorn Wars, ahead of the adult animated films U.S. premiere at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas. The news was announced Thursday.

Set during an ancestral war between teddy bears and unicorns, the horror-comedy film follows Bluet and Tubby, teddy bear brothers who are polar opposites to each other. When their time at teddy bear bootcamp leads to a combat tour in the Magic Forest, Bluet and Tubbys complicated history and tense relationship could affect the fate of the war, including whether the teddy bears will fulfill the prophecy and usher in a new era.

Unicorn Wars is directed and written by illustrator Alberto Vzquez. Prior to this deal, GKIDS distributed Vzquezs Goya Award-winning feature Birdboy: The Forgotten Children and animated short Decorado.

There is nobody on Earth who could make a film like Unicorn Wars except Alberto Vzquez, GKIDS president David Jesteadt said in a statement. We are proud to partner again with this exceptional filmmaker on his richly layered and darkly funny new film about cute characters doing horrific things. It continues to haunt me.

Chelo Loureiro, Ivn Miambres and Nicolas Schmerkin serve as executive producers on the animated film. International sales are represented by Charades, which previously arranged local distribution rights with GKIDS for Academy Award nominee Mirai and Belle, among others.

Unicorn Wars will be released in theaters in early 2023, following a domestic release this fall. The animated film previously competed at the 2022 Annecy International Film Festival, and will be featured at the 2022 BFI London Film Festival in October.

Yes, indeed they are, they're well done.

Among other things, Brian Orndorf published a review for Unicorn Wars on Blu-ray.com! Available here for all to read.

Also, happening right now in Bordeaux, France is Cartoon Movie! Now in its 25th annual edition, the event is the largest platform for European animators to pitch and present new feature-length animated projects, in order to gain financing and production assistance, and for us audiences to seek after, discover and follow possible future masterpieces.

Home page: https://www.cartoon-media.eu/movie/
Participating projects: https://www.cartoon-media.eu/movie/d...r-the-projects

Highlights this year, according to Animation Magazine's Ramin Zahed, include:

- Sophie Roy's Butterfly Tales
- Chiara Malta and Sbastien Laudenbach's Chicken for Linda!
- Alberto Vzquez's next feature film Decorado (based on his eponymous short)
- From Cartoon Saloon, Louise Bagnall's Julin
- Sbastien Laudenbach's Love Is a Gypsy Child: A Carmen Story
- Celine Willard's Merry Christmas, Monsieur Hulot
- Salom Chatelian's Ninn
- Lo Marchand and Anne-Laure Daffis' The Roman of Renart
- Karla Nor Holmbck's Rosa and the Stone Troll
- Jens Mller's Yap Yap — The Secret Forest

My personal suggestion also includes Jrmie Prin's Mars Express, which will present a sneak preview in this year's event.

For the event, Cartoon Brew also received a new exclusive clip from Jrmie Prin's upcoming film Mars Express! According to the article written by Jamie Lang, the movie is set to be finally finished by late April, and prepared for screenings for Annecy or Cannes:

Sound effects work is currently underway, and the film should be finished by the end of April.

Where and how audiences will be able to access the film hasn’t been nailed down yet, but Cannes runs May 16-24 and Annecy runs June 11-17. We wouldn’t be surprised if the film screened at either or both events.
