Apps like Bigscreen have rekindled interest in 3D movies and I feel the future for 3D home media is looking bright.
The only virtual reality headset I know of that supports Blu-ray 3D is the PlayStation VR when used with the PlayStation 4. It does not support Blu-ray 3D when used with the PlayStation 5.

I don't think you understand how 3D works... Any device that can send each side of the picture to the designated eye can produce a 3D effect. Technically those cheap phone holder based VR headsets can do 3D the same way, but I'm not sure how well it works... Or any VR headset 3D for that matter. That said there's also other unique devices that are coming out that can do 3D like these glasses on Kickstarter

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...me/description

There's also this 11k 3D monitor that doesn't require glasses and uses eye tracking tech to make the 3D work better then something like the 3DS screen, which can also be used for 3D movies if you know what you're doing although it's definitely not easy due to the tools to convert files to the right format not being commercially availible on top of needed CFW on it

https://www.dimenco.eu/sr-pro-display

Although what consumer has 11k for such a monitor xD They actually were originally trying to create a TV with the same tech, but didn't see it on their site.

Also the imax 3D uses laser 3D and has a different set of glasses then what they use for the realD 3D. I think it's just linear polarized lenses rather then circular polarization, but I'm not sure. Definitely looking forward to seeing it in 3D even though it will be the 3rd time seeing Strange 2 before going a 4th time to a 4dx showing next weekend xD

I bought a new 3D JVC projector a few months ago that released late 2021.

3D is pretty common among projectors, but unfortunately Epson just dropped it on their new laser line which is not a good sign.

You're right though, without TV's being made with 3D again, the format will die out completely. Projectors aren't enough to keep discs getting pressed.

Sad because I don't have a movie theatre in my small remote city, so it's home 3d or nothing.

The resolution sucks it’s not even full HD 1080p. The hope is that the new psvr2 unlocks 3D playback, that one will pull full HD rez on Blu-rays.

I've been watching full HD 3D blu-rays in VR using MPC-HC and MadVR. Its not an officially supported player so you have to use real time decryption like "Passkey" or create your own full quality rips. If you're using a 4K monitor though you can watch full 1080p 3D movies in Bigscreen using SBS mode in MadVR. It would be great if there was an officially supported way of watching them in HD though, you're right. Whats nice about using MPC-HC in Bigscreen though is you can watch movies with anyone else that has a VR headset like they were on the couch next to you, and at no extra cost.

I'm still a fairly new 3D enthusiast and have been so impressed with 3D movies in a VR cinema that I've collected over 200 in the past year alone. I'm hopeful that there's others like me that are just now starting to jump on the 3D bandwagon because of VR and the studios are taking notice of the renewed interest.

The PlayStation 5 does not support Blu-ray 3D even with a legacy 3D display.

yep, currently it does not with or without the PSVR. Will see if that will change once PSVR2 is out.
