These guys are all really funny, and the premise of Spinal Tap is brilliant enough to expand on. And there are a hundred ways to make another great comedy on this fictitious band.
However, they need to create NEW jokes. Lots of new jokes. If they rehash all the same gags (small stonehenge stage prop, drummers dying, etc.) it will be lame as hell. I imagine another Spinal Tap movie, made documentary-style, where they are all convince each other to come out of retirement for a reunion/retirement tour could be amazing watching these guys bumble through stuff like: - trying to create "cool" promo videos for social media - rehearsing songs for the tour (featuring Spinal Tap songs we never heard) - trying to promote and sell CDs in this day and age - designing new props and production - auditioning new drummers (and criticizing each one) - disastrous press conferences while marketing their new tour - more disastrous tour shenanigans |
