What are ya talking about? That was only 8 years later.

Interview with the Vampire was released in 1994 while Queen of the Damned was released in 2002.

There's an Interview with the Vampire TV series coming (hopefully) later this year on AMC:

I'm guessing Lethal Weapon turning into a franchise keeping Donner busy might be a factor there but honestly I feel that even when it was released Goonies felt a bit like the tale end of an era.

I think the fact Cruise and Pitt were recast probably tells you a lot of the reason why their wasnt a follow up sooner.

Pitt wasn't recast; his character didn't appear in Queen of the Damned.

Remo Williams is ripe for franchise glory. I enjoyed the 1985 movie that attempted to launch a series like 007, and it sucked it never took off.

So, Jaws remains un-butchered by todays standards. IMO.
I'm going to have to agree with you. Jaws is my #1 favorite film and I don't WANT to see it butchered, but it's surprising that it hasn't been resurrected in the last decade or so since "legacy sequels" became a huge thing.

It'd probably be fun to see Dreyfuss return as Hooper for about five minutes, & it'd be nice to get a decent shark movie again amongst all the DTV shlock, but I'm guessing Spielberg has pretty tight reigns on the franchise now, or at the very least the power to tell Universal to **** off if they wanted to do another.

Yep - alls we need is for some studio or whomever to buy the rights and then the TV shows, prequels, sequels, etc. start coming out. Barf. . Of course, they'll change a TON of things with characters to, well, you know.... for reasons.

Lets see, what hasnt been ruined yet or !@#$% with by some acquiring company?

Lord of the Rings - although Amazon is taking the the first shot at it.
Jaws
E.T.(as mentioned above)
Back to the Future - thankfully no one can screw with it thanks to Bob Zemeckis blocking the IP-milkers from doing anything of the sort.
The Godfather

I might think of more but those are some big ones.
Are you kidding me?!

No Damon - how has Jaws been ruined? The sequels were super-cheese and didnt matter whatsoever. They didnt get old characters back, sans Ellen Brody and it just didnt have the kind of negativity around it like some of the attempts at the other "rehashes".

Or no?

Nah....Jaws has been milked...even Dreyfuss appeared in Pirahnna 3D.
The whole animal attacks genre jumped the shark a long time ago.
And after Sharknado series, i doubt returning to Jaws itself will mean anything but a nostalgia trick.

Jaws was totally milked. Maybe it just doesn't seem that way to people today because its been 34 years since the last one, but back in the day it was clear to everyone they ran that shit into the ground.

Jaws - $260M
Jaws 2 - $102M
Jaws 3 - $42M
Jaws 4 - $15M

Milked dry. Jaws (and Rocky) was pretty much the punchline to any joke about endless sequels.

Ok, fair enough. I’ll stand corrected there. But at least Jaws 2 is watchable if not memorable. The rest are terrible and did happen a long time ago. I’m probably using examples of recent sequels and attempts at ruination versus old things. The recent ones are even worse and more annoying since they start changing stuff and injecting nonsense into them. Something like that.

Imagine a new Jaws movie released today? It would be comical. The shark would be misunderstood, there’d be a corporation behind releasing genetically modified sharks into the water for military weapons purposes, there’d be a slew of wannabe Ellen Ripleys to deal with them, and on and on.

Looking at those numbers Jaws 2 had a pretty big drop from the first. I can understand the takes for 3 with its gimmicks and 4 with its crapness but 2 surprises me. Yes most sequels see diminishing returns but this was a, in the 80s when shark movies certainly hadn't been milked, b, starred the return of the main star of Jaws and c, was a direct sequel to not only a popular movie but an actual cutral event which is what Jaws was.

But I don't think Jaws has been run into the ground. It's only 3 sequels and let's be honest we will probably have more Avatar movies than that in a decades time. The problem with Jaws is its a one and done thing. You can't take the shark out the water so there is only so much you can do before things get repetitive. Jaws in Space ain't gonna work.

True but I think Pitt and Cruise were really a lot of the attraction of that film rather than just the franchise itself and that neither of them seemed to wanted to return to it is likely the reason why no follow up was made until the following decade.
