Yeah more Edward G for sure. I've been wanting The Little Giant, Amazing Dr. Clitterhouse, and Larceny Inc for a while.

Excuse my French, but I’d gladly give my left ball for a decent WAC release.

I could mull over all sorts of Warner titles I’d like to see on BD, but the first that always comes to mind is High Society. It’s been assumed and rumored to be in the works for BD, but I haven’t heard anything more for a while now. I’ve watched the DVD many, many times, but have been holding off for an upgrade.

Who would be the equivalent of Edward Robinson today as a leading man?

Given it was shot in VistaVision, a new scan from the OCN could be breathtaking and sharp!

Not really anybody in today's cinema I can think of, but Bob Hoskins is the closest comp I can think of to Edward G. Smaller guy with a tough presence who can play heavies with the best of them, but also play much lighter and sympathetic characters. Hoskins' great performance as Hoover in "Nixon" made me think of how Robinson could have really sunk his teeth into playing Hoover.

How about Paul Giamatti? Maybe even Steve Buscemi?

Buscemi in "Boardwalk Empire" definitely evoked the presence of Edward G. Just this incredibly intimidating guy who doesn't look particularly intimidating, but you know he must have walked over a lot of bodies to get to where he is and doesn't really have to say much to strike fear in those around him.

I was actually going to suggest another Boardwalk Empire alum, Stephen Graham.

I think a good candidate would be Eddie Marsan who has great versatility and is a truly wonderful actor.

Marsan gives a great performance as a heavy in "The Disappearance of Alice Creed", then gives a polar opposite performance as James McAvoy's put-upon buddy in the excellent "Filth". Dude is a terrific actor.

He's hilarious in Happy-Go-Lucky... "En-ra-ha! En-ra-ha! Watch your mirrors!"

None that are working in Hollywood today. That kind of actor is relegated to character actor roles and rarely have the chance to carry a film on their own. Robinson is one of those stars that was fortunate to have the career he did because Hollywood has become so homogenized of just pushing standard pretty boy models as the leads, instead of giving actors who have great screen presence but are "unusual" in Hollywood looks.

The days of Jack Klugman, Karl Malden, and Gene Hackman are over. Hell, Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau would be sharing their digs for real in 2022. These dudes probably couldn't land a Seth Rogen role today.

Call me an elitist or what-have-you; I don't care. I have a very difficult time watching most modern films with their too-cute Hollywood Handsome air, as if the cast just walked out of a salon on Rodeo Dr.

At least back in the day you'd have a leading man and leading lady, but the supporting cast were not always dandied-up to beat the band. It's simply a totally different aesthetic. And I would love to watch some of these new movies, but 9 times out of 10 the cast pulls me right out of the illusion.

Back in topic, shouldn't Arsenic and Old Lace (1944) be up for the WAC treatment?

Michael Shannon might come close. Not in size, but in presence.
