I believe the Z9D measurements were taken pre-calibration and in the "Vivid" picture mode. We measured the X95K after calibration in the "Custom Professional" picture mode.
Also the X95K MLL is 0 black and the new MiniLED with Sony's new Backlight Master Drive has no blooming. |

Samsung’s QD-OLED review:
https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/s95b-oled As expected, basically everything is pumped brighter than it should be. At least the color volume and gamut are pretty promising for Sony’s version of QD-OLED which will hopefully/probably be way more accurate. Now to wait for a 77”+ model… The raised blacks due to ambient light does seem a little concerning though… I wonder if Sony will add a polarizing filter or such to avoid that. |

Someone said lately that manufacturers are now getting super smart (sly) putting emphasis on algorithms for putting out lots of nits more than typical viewing content, for showing off on 10% and 5% windows on the screen. It might be time for these reviewers to change up their practices. And the peak white centric mindset to relaying panel performance.
The whole reason my B8 still keeps me happy at "700 nits" is because it's clearly more than that on some clusters of pixels across the range of colours NOT white. This is something never talked about compared with obsessions on peak white measurement... |

There's very much an overemphasis on peak white in terms of HDR performance, but as WRGB panels will pollute colour the higher the brightness goes (edit: https://www.lightillusion.com/calibr...tml#hdr_volume) then it makes me wonder if that continued focus on peak white by the "professionals" has been there to spare OLED's blushes more than anything. But there are colour clipping patterns on Spears & Munsil so you can see what your TV is doing to areas of high brightness in HDR, the main RGBYCM tones clip at about 1000 nits on my TV while luminance clips at 1800 or so.
BUT white is still very very important from a calibration perspective as it's how you gauge the colour temperature so you're never going to get away from it. Last edited by Geoff D; 05-17-2022 at 01:32 PM. |

I’ve found with the right amount of tequila any display can become 3D. It’s a fine line tho. Too much 3D can make the following morning a bit tough.

Turns out, if you are referring to FOMO. He had local dimming set to High instead of medium.
