The fire at one of the major chip plants I believe necessitated the change. Yes some say that it’s a step down but good DACs today are the rule and not the exception. Finally unless one is using the analog RCA or XLR stereo outputs the analog section where the DACs are used is totally bypassed meaning if your just using HDMI then it has zero impact on the end user experience.

Press [1] (right) repeatedly on the remote control until “06 FTO” is displayed on the unit’s display. 3. Press [OK].

I've also done a complete system reset/restore as well, and that also did nothing.

The best way I can describe it, it's as if by trying to eject the disc from the player, it interprets it as "read/play/start the disc". I'm really starting to think it's either the disc itself is corrupted in some way that's causing it to read incorrectly, or something in the player has gone haywire, and doesn't understand open/close tray anymore.

I have yet to find any other discussion on this or other A/V home theater forums with this specific problem.

There are two authorized Panasonic dealers in my city, which I'm planning on taking to next week. I hate the idea of having to take this new of a machine for repairs, and it worries me that their might be more later on down the line. The player isn't even a year old, and was manufactured in June of 2021.
I'm having this same issue. Did you ever get a resolution?

The 820 isn't able to take subs from USB when playing a retail UHD, right?

They tweaked the DACs as well as the audio board accordingly so if you're going to use it just via HDMI it wont matter at all. The UB820 isnt affected as it used a cheaper Burr-Brown based DAC layout (4x stereo DACs IIRC all PCM5101 based). The original 9000 used AKM DACs but because of the late 2020 fire Panny switched to ESS DACs instead.

Only with the Asian firmware if I remember.

Where is the tray release when you get a UB820 pulled open? I fished a disc stuck in the tray out, but can't see the release to check and see if the belt is the issue.

If the unit is open there should be a square shaped hole that you slide a paper clip or another thin object into which should unlatch the unit and release the tray.

Had my 820 for about 2 years now. Watched probably all of 20 disc total and now im having a problem where the control panel keeps showing up on the screen in the right hand corner and will not go away without alot of fuss. Anyone had this issue? Whats the move? I didn't buy any extended warranties but this player shouldn't be crapping out already. I did get it to go away by doing a factory reset but it came right back. I then got it to go away by unplugging the machine. Not sure if it will come back next time I watch a disc but its a damn headache for sure. Thanks

I wasn't able to find it. I did take the top of the drive off and retrieve the disc. Can anyone highlight the manual release point on an image? I really don't want to pay for shipping to get this thing repaired if the belt has just slipped off or something I can easily fix.

Are you using the player’s remote to start the movie from the disc’s menu? Some people have reported this problem when pressing OK on a different remote.

I've had this player since the beginning of the year and probably played 40-50 discs, played flawlessly, not a single freeze/skip(knock knock) which is why i bought the player to replace my X700. Love the HDR optimizer it definitely improves the image compared to the Sony, and I like to use the Light environment setting on darker discs and it really helps with the overall brightness.

I do have the occasional audio drop after pausing and rewinding, I did a factory reset and it helped but it still has happened a couple times since but it's pretty rare so I can live with it. Very happy with this player!

I even have unwrapped UHD’s sitting to go.

I purchased a new smart TV and with the way Apps run and how easy it is the disc is over.
I can hear the crowds screaming “what about quality?” Well the DV streamer movies look just as good as UHD.
Writes someone who is satisfied with the quality of low bandwidth streaming compared to Blu-ray or UHD Blu-ray. I would never stream a good movie because the difference is simply breathtaking if you have the equipment available.

Pretty sure I was using the panasonic. I will report back next time I use the player. Thanks for the response.

I have streamed a number of films from Disney+ in Dolby Vision and compared to the UHD and there was nothing in it (picture).
Movies like Thor: Ragnarok were better than the UHD as we got the IMAX scenes.
Then Disney+ has stacks of DV movies that aren't available in DV UHD. National Treasure for example.

I have a number of films sitting on the shelf in blu or UHD. I just looked them up in Just Watch and said play on TV. Result was quicker, more convenient and perfectly fine on quality.

This was using the Sony A90J 83". OLED. Which is a stunner TV.

Why would the brightness changing between shots be delayed by one second? Is this a disc issue? Player issue? TV issue?

Watch this clip I took of Vigilante 4K. Every time the shot changes there’s a one second delay and then a noticeable “click” where the brightness changes.

Your sig shows you have 2 different OLEDS, does this happen on both?
Are both 820s on same firmware?

Just asking process of elimination questions.

Both players are on firmware 1.69 and this is happening on both OLEDs.

The C7 has TPC turned off and it happens. The C1 has TPC turned on and it happens.

I just checked the Vigilante 4K thread and it seems like a bunch of people had this issue with DV but not HDR.

It looks like tone mapping is lagging/aggresive.
Check your tone mapping settings.

I would love to invite you to my home and demonstrate There is much more to it than just resolution. A good HD stream gives you about 20 to 25 Mbps if you are lucky, UHD Blu-ray up to 144 Mbps - there is no comparison between those two formats. Listen to the sound, night and day difference if you have the equipment that can reproduce it, e.g. a soundbar will not show the difference.

I don’t think this needs to be discussed more since the difference is massive and a fact. Streaming is more convenient; I give you that, but this is the only advantage. Unfortunately, most people don’t care about quality much, this is why DVD still exists in 2022.

I have a 128" diagonal screen and a JVC Reference Series 4k HDR projector. Streaming often looks bad blown up that big. Banding and compression issues like macroblocking in the dark areas of the image are a real "highlight."

I'll take Blu-ray discs, especially well produced 4k Blu-ray discs, over streaming anyday. Then there is the audio...
