LiveScore, a completely new entrant to the Irish sports rights market, have announced today that they will be screening all 137 UEFA Champions League games online for free on a non-exclusive basis in the Republic of Ireland in a new 3 year deal. The games will be screened live via the LiveScore app on iOS & Android. LiveScore app users in Ireland can also have the option to Chromecast the matches through their TV's via an internet connection.
https://www.livescore.com/en/news/li...2614281953595/ Well. I was not expecting an announcement like this one to ever happen tbh. It's very peculiar in the sense that the company who got these rights, namely Livescore, are not very well known among general sports fans here for having to broadcast live TV sports rights to viewers in Ireland. They are a completely new entity to the Irish market who are taking on a big gamble to take on the Champions League rights to both casual sports & regular sports viewers alike. I think this announcement made this morning is sort of mirroring the announcement of what happened with the UEFA CL matches in Australia. A new start-up company, completely new to that country at that time, reportedly got these rights to show these games to online viewers via an app in a rights cycle auction for a sum of AUS$20 million. I would have remembered reading about this story on the Sydney Morning Herald or The Guardian website in the UK. Would I be right to suggest that a deal of this similar scale was done here in Ireland even though there knowingly some big differences between the 2 countries. The population size of Australia, for one instance, is much bigger than Ireland so I would be guessing that the cost of the new rights deal here would be much smaller than what was paid for in Australia. I would be guessing Livescore would have paid under a ballpark figure of €5 million for these new Irish rights to be shown via their app. |

Dublin, looks like you and I are the last men standing. So, if Harry Kane ends up leaving Hotspur, where do you think he’ll land?

I've just heard that Shane Long has tested positive for Covid. He is to miss 3 matches for The Republic of Ireland team in the European Qualifiers for the World Cup. He is self-isolating at a hotel in Portugal at the moment. He won't be playing in the match against Portugal taking place in Faro Luiz this evening.

Well done Vera Pauw in getting The Republic of Ireland Women's team to qualify for the 2023 Women's World Cup.
The Republic of Ireland have beaten Scotland 1-0 in the World Cup Play off match in Hampden Park tonight. What a wonderful result for all of the team. All of the Ireland fans are very proud of you for what you have done tonight. They have qualified for their 1st ever World Cup tournament which is going to be held in Australia and New Zealand next summer. |

The official stadium for Gibraltar will undergo redevelopment work from next year. As a result of this announcement; The Republic of Ireland will have to play any matches against Gibraltar during the qualifiers for the Euros at Faro in Portugal.
https://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2022...d-to-portugal/ I would assume that this announcement will eventually involve the rest of the teams that are grouped with Gibraltar and Ireland which includes the Netherlands, France and Greece. |

Well done to West Ham United for winning the UEFA Europa Conference League. It wasn't a great game by any means. It got a bit hairy at times throughout the match.
The result is done and dusted now. I would say the West Ham fans would be overjoyed with this great win tonight. |

Vera Pauw's reign as manager of the Republic of Ireland women's team is over.
https://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2023...new-direction/ The FAI have decided not to offer the Dutch woman a new contract after her previous contract had expired this month. Back in December 2022; Vera Pauw was dealing with some serious allegations in her work when she was manager of Houston Dash from November 2017 to September 2018. It is alleged that she expressed comments about players weight while exerting excessive control over their eating habits. Pauw has since strenously denied all allegations. The allegations towards Pauw had also caused a rift between herself and the Republic of Ireland's captain of the Womens team Katie McCabe as the side were playing against Nigeria in the group stages of the FIFA Women's World Cup in Australia & New Zealand. McCabe had urged Pauw to make changes in the later stages of the match; Pauw refused, and said in her post-match press conference: "If Katie McCabe wants a change, it doesn't mean… she's not the coach." McCabe subsequently tweeted out a zipped-mouth emoji on social media as a way of expressing her disagreement with Pauw over the issue. A brief statement released from the FAI's Chief Executive Jonathan Hill this evening has said: "On behalf of the Football Association of Ireland, we would like to thank Vera for her hard work and commitment over the past four years and wish her well for the future. "In particular, I wish to acknowledge the role she played in leading Ireland to the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 where our women’s team made history and inspired a nation. "The future is bright for women and girls’ football and our focus now is building upon the work done by Vera and the historic achievements of our women’s team, which we see as a platform to support the next phase of the journey for the team, and more broadly the development of women and girls’ football in this country." The FAI will now begin the process of finding Pauw's replacement ahead of Ireland's Womens Nations League match against Northern Ireland in Dublin on the 23rd of September. |
