Default $499 PS3 to have HDMI?

TGS 2006: Live From the Sony Keynote

In the Q&A after the keynote Ken Kutaragi confirmed that both versions of the PS3 will come with an HDMI port, but it's still only confirmed for Japan. Lets hope this includes other territories as well

Quote:
A question on why HDMI only is in the high level version of the PS3 only. Kutaragi explained that if they put the HDMI in the lower version, they were worried that some would complain about having something they don't want. However, HDMI penetration has come faster than expected, Kutaragi says. He asks if people want HDMI in all models. Everyone in the audience say yes. He then confirms that all models, including the 20 gig version, will have an HDMI port.

From what we can tell, this is only for Japan. You'll have to wait for overseas confirmation to see if this applies in your territory as well.

I read about the keynote and things can change at the last minute. There was also the annoucement that a price cut would go into effect for the 60GB model, but that is only in Japan for now. Before the Tokoto Game Show, I had doubts as to weather or not a price cut would be in effect, but it's still possible. If Sony does put a price cut into effect, maybe they won't have so many haters.

US price cut will come with the xbox360 price cut. So in some respect, its good that the 360 came out before the ps3.

Dont expect it until at least March though.

Wow! This is an awesome bombshell! Hell, even if the lower end still remains at $499, this was one of the major qualms people had with the system. More than likely, I'm thinking the West will get a cut in price as well, but if it doesn't the PS3 at $499 is still one hell of a bargain.

Right on Sony, way to listen to your potential customers. Will this silence all the Sony haters? Hmmm, probably not, they'll find something else to gripe about, but lets enjoy this news while we can!

They really should go ahead and make the price drop count across the boards to be fair.

Nope. Go to AVS right now and get a load of the desperate spin and FUD already going.

Indeed.

Based on precedent and a little common sense, I'm fairly confident that this price drop will end up counting across the boards as it should.

I expecially like this quote.....

For once I thought I was going to write a Sony-related story that was positive from beginning to end. But, alas, it’s not meant to be.

^^ Any excuse to hate or show bias.

It's really downright laughable at this point, because it's so juevenille and downright irrational.

All these people do is just destroy themselves repeatedly when they spew trash like that.

Who cares what they think? The end results will speak for themselves, every time.

Exclamation Low end PS3 to get HDMI 1.3

I've seen this in a few places in the past two days. Thought I'd post one link here.

With HDMI 1.3 shipping on all PS3s there is no question about all PS3s supporting the full range (including 1080p) of HD materails.

The question I now have is whether I personally willl get the nicer model or the lesser expensive one. As I have a equipment rack right next to my couch wherer the PS3 will live - and not on the other side of the room by my TV, I don't need wireless or crazy stuff like that. It has Ethernet built in, and I have Ethernet at my rack. I don't have much use for the hard drive as I really want to watch movies...

Wow! Maybe I'm already 100 bucks up on where I was yesterday. Seems like it to me.

oh yeah I fogot about wifi will not come with 20gb version, I don't play game sonline, so I doubt it will affect me. Infact i don't think I will even play games on it at all for a while, untill Resident Evil 5 comes out, or somthing worth while. I'll get 20gb version mearly for Blu-Ray movies.

However, i could experiment with a old router and a my ethernet to wifi adapter which I am currently using on my Linux rig (access point is in a diffrent room). I can hook both my Linux rig, Xbox1 and the PS3 to the router, and then the wifi adapter to the wan port. I get 11mps on my wifi adapter., which is double the speed of Road Runner's downstream of 5mbps. And since the PS3 is directly connected to router, I will get 100mbps to stream videos and other crap to it. If the video playback is limited on PS3, I always can use XBMC for my modded Xbox 1, which already works like a charm.
