Maybe it’s me, but Hugo didn’t have any pop out for me.

It's part of 3d Rarities II
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/3-D-R...lu-ray/208965/

I just received it watched a little bit of A day in the Country. 3D is so strong, I had to stop watching because it made my eyes hurt!

Yes, it's the best use of pop-out in the whole movie and the only one I remember from my theatrical viewing of the film.

None? Here is my list Hugo. Did you look at any of the points in the list, particularly the ones I listed as strong or better. Those would reach halfway across the room in my reckoning. Anyone else have a problem seeing pop-outs in Hugo?

I want to point out again that I consider anything on my side of the screen, a pop-out. It doesn't have to have the intention of making you jump.

Well gents, in the run up to all the Easter festivities I got a sec to try out my Chinesium 3D to DLP converter, with a bargain-basement short throw projector.

Tried out The Queen's Corgi. In the scene a few minutes in, when the dogs are racing down the steps to be the first to greet 👌 The Donald 👌, they fly out of the screen. Watched live, the popout seems stuttery and doesn't resolve well at all.

Paused, however, the pompous "top dog"'s open mouth is right in front of me, and I can inspect that canine's canines, his tongue is floating in the air.

So the mystery thickens.

Default Thor 2011

My first rewatch in a couple of years. I have to say the colour scheme hasn't aged all that well but it still one of my favorite Marvel flicks. Unfortunately it leaves a lot to be desired in the pop-out department. It helps that there is some pop whenever rain or debris from explosions occur. Mostly mild or quickly occurring with one really good pop-out.

My Ranking is on the first page of the thread.

I'm surprised no one has rated the 3rd spy kids movie... Sure it's super campy, but it is an excellent example of a 3D movie. It's especially interesting since it's partially on 2D where they just layered the same picture during those scenes then used a different set of pictures for the 3D scenes so the playback device didn't have to switch between playing a 2D and 3D formatted picture

That's pretty much how every movie that's only partially in 3D works, they are all configured to output a 3D signal even during the flat scenes.

And yes, Spy Kids 3D has some inventive use of 3D, much more than Alita does...

Any seem Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World in 3D? The 3D is pretty good from what I can remember even though the film itself is pretty bad. Can't remember if it had any pop out though.

It's a conversion, I recall quite an eye-wateringly bad one at times too, so not much pop-out, if any.

What projector are you using? My home projector only shows depth with this movie. I see pop out on other films… but when it comes to Hugo I don’t notice any.

I believe I made that list using my old Epson 3100 Home Theater. It would have probably looked better on my BenQ.

I haven't watched this movie in years so I was curious about the lack of pop-outs comments below. After watching just a few seconds of Hugo all I can say is I understand why this movie in the list of "Pop Out Kings".

The 3D is strong enough that even the minor pop-outs are clear, never mind the obvious ones like the snow or the dogs snout. Even things that maybe don't quite pop-out of the screen like the speakers are so well defined that I still felt I could touch them. I'm going to try and watch the whole thing tomorrow but my initial impression is wow!

Hugo has lots of scenes that feature negative parallax. In essence those objects and people that are outside the stereo window are popping out.

I think you might be confusing that kind of natural (lol) pop out with the extreme pop out of golden age 3D movies or like scenes from "Comin at Ya!"

The separation is so extreme in those movies that you feel like the object is touching your eyes.

Default Spider-man: No Way Home

Though I ranked it low, it isn't without its moments. But I have a problem with Marvel pop-outs in that they mostly want them fast or weak. Outside of the obligatory outstretched arm of web slinging and spell making, the 'before the screen' moments feel like a quota rather than a 'wow' moment. There are a few that I didn't list; Numerous times when they are standing around making bad jokes there is one of the group standing outside the screen. I listed a couple because I believe those sometimes go unnoticed and I think you will be rewarded if you train your eyes to catch these moments.

For me, the biggest treat in the movie is the lovely mirror dimension sequence. Not much for pop-out but cool, nonetheless.

As usual, I gave it a ranking in the first post of this thread.

Looks like you also didn't see the car hurled at the screen by Doc Oc popout.

Fast and weak popout that you have to train your eyes to see just ain't the way to make 3D movies, at least not for a general audience.
