so to along with the other hiccup I ran into the other night(going from movie to playing games made there be no surround sound from games, had to turn off/back on the ps3 to get surrounds), now I can't seem to figure out why the PS3 is sending a 7.1 signal to my receiver for every single game I play. This is causing me to not be able to apply THX Select 2 games mode or Prologic IIx to the game audio. The games I have should be sending a PCM 5.1 signal to my receiver.

Agree with Don, check your audio setting, once you connect it by Hdmi the PS3 automatically checks all the boxes including 7.1...

Well, on AVS I had the question answered and the guy said that it's a known issue with PS3 but Sony hasn't issues a fix yet. Only thing I can do is manually go in everytime I play a game and uncheck all the 7.1 settings in the PS3 audio menu. That's gonna be a pain. They need to get a fix out asap. It makes no sense for the PS3 to do this. I'm running 7.1 setup.

i understand your frustration & if i owned a 7.1 i'd easily see how annoying it would be & the amount of times you'll forget to change when going straigh from games to movies & vice-versa
Sure Sony will issue a patch addressing this soon |

the ps3 will send a 7.1 signal even on a psn game thats stereo. but it doesnt do this to all games. even though the receiver displays 7.1 doesnt mean it is. to get around this and apply matrixing, de-select the 7.1 selections on audio set up. this has been the case for quite a while now.

I believe this is why he cares..
"This is causing me to not be able to apply THX Select 2 games mode or Prologic IIx to the game audio. The games I have should be sending a PCM 5.1 signal to my receiver." I have no idea what it is but It appears this is what the op wants those, and perhaps there not really 7.1 but in fact 5.1 masquerading as 7.1. Thats what I think he is saying... |

It's very dumb that the PS3 is doing this. Reason I never noticed until now is I didn't play games much for like the last 6 months to to a year and I just the other day picked up some titles that were on sale and I've been gaming again. Sure it's not a huge deal but will be a major pain in the @ss doing the switching back and forth all the time though. Surely they can issue firmware to fix it. Who knows though, it has been like this since launch I guess and they haven't fixed it. Last edited by STARSCREAM; 06-16-2009 at 11:12 PM. |
