Just a general question, do you guys use the auto upscaling on this player to upscale blu rays to 4K? or do u keep the native 1080p from the bluray? I have no basis for this but I would think the native 1080p would look better than the auto upscaled 4K, but I wasnt sure and didnt know if anyone else knew anymore about it.

In most cases I think you want your TV to be doing the upscaling since it should do a better job of it than a Blu-ray player. Of course some TVs might not be so good at upscaling in which case you'd use the player to upscale.

I just keep it native, except for when it comes to DVDs, since I can't seem to figure out how to get them to play in their native aspect ratio. The only way it seems to play properly is if I upscale it to 1080p.

I just got one from Ebay, region free... let's see if it works....I have been postponing on getting a modded player for quite some time but there is just a lot of blurays and dvds I can't watch because of the stupid region locks....

They didn't fix the ever-persistent forced Dolby Vision problem. Still forced HDR on regular 1080p Blu-rays on my side when Dolby Vision is set to On.

I tried to install the update yesterday but at the confirmation screen my player would freeze. I did it like 5 times with both wireless and ethernet connections. Not sure what the problem is. The only thing I can think of is that I need to use the player remote to confirm instead of the TV remote I was using, but I can't find my remote since I always just use the TV one.

Is anyone else's player freezing at the confirmation screen for the update? I've tried updating it through wi-fi, ethernet, and a flash drive but each time I'm unable to click on the option to start the update. When I try to update it through the Internet the option is stuck at cancel and when I do it with the flash drive it is stuck at ok. I haven't installed any apps on the player so I don't think it's a capacity issue. At this point I don't know what to do. I've reset the player multiple times but it hasn't helped. Could it be that I need to buy another remote for the player to be able to select between the options? The TV remote works fine for everything else.

You can try using other remote controller codes if your TV remote let's you use alternate codes.

The model # is "Rmt-vb201u" for the X700. You can get a replacement off ebay for as little as $7.

I ended up finding my remote after a lot of searching and was able to update the player without any problems. Put it somewhere more prominent so I won't need to go looking for it again.

Updating now. Maybe I will actually be able to get my 6 LOTR Extended Edition and three Back To The Future discs to work properly afterwards.

Edit: that is a big no on Back To The Future II at least.

Zero issues for me on that one. Maybe try importing the French standalone release, it's only €15.

Has anyone else had an issue where the player will not show DV content consistently? It's really hit and miss anytime I play a disc with DV on it. I'll turn the DV option on in the menu but then have to do the dance of unplugging the power and HDMI cord to finally get the player to show the video, It will play the audio fine. I've switched out HDMI cables and get the same results. It will just show the black/white snow picture most times

I just leave the Dolby Vision setting on all the time. I think my regular blu-rays look better when my TV kicks into Dolby Vision mode for them, but I assume it has something to do with the picture settings for my TV in Dolby Vision mode because I doubt the 4k player can magically improve SDR in any real way. My DVDs come through as SDR rather than Dolby Vision though, so I wonder what the difference is that yours play in HDR with the Dolby Vision setting.

I was mostly hoping this update would make my player freeze less, but it's still a pain getting my discs to start playing half the time.
