Default Audition (1999) (Collector's Edition)

Takashi Miike's AUDITION: Disc company Shout! Factory released the first peek at the cover art for a new two-DVD release of Takashi Miike’s AUDITION, as well as content info. Featuring a new high-definition transfer from the internegative (with a fresh digital stereo soundtrack) of Miike’s notorious chiller, about a widower (Ryo Ishibashi) who holds “auditions” for a new girlfriend and winds up hooking up with a beautiful psychopath (Eihi Shiina), the set will street in October, along with a double-Blu-ray edition.

Both versions will include an impressive array of original special features; the lineup includes:
New audio commentary by director Miike and screenwriter Daisuke Tengan
New video introduction by Miike
Over 90 minutes of new interviews with the cast, including Ishibashi, Shiina, Renji Ishibashi and Ren Osugi
Trailers
Liner notes by Tom Mes, author of Agitator The Cinema of Takashi Miike
Retail price is $24.98 each for both the DVDs and the Blu-rays.

Hell Yes!

This makes having to wait for Ichi The Killer a little easier to take.

Don't think it's up for pre-order yet. I'm sure Amazon will have it shortly.

Am I the only one who thought that movie sucked? It didn't feel neither scarry nor thrilling. I was told all sorts of stuff about it before watching it, including I hope U have a strong stomach and such... In the end, it was really disappointing. Dunno what all the hype is about.

I blame Bravo TV's 100 Scariest Movie Moments and people "over-selling" it as something it's not. That show sent lots of people running to pick this film up thinking they were going to get a TCM movie from Japan. I really liked the slow, methodical pacing up until the final few minutes, made the "payoff" that much more intense.

I cant say it sucks because I havent seen it yet. But, the last thing I need is more torture porn films. There are enough of those out there. Im sure its a wonderful movie, but I'll pass.

Besides, as with most of these b-level horror films, you can just watch the "cool"(gory, violent, torture, etc, etc) parts on youtube and skip all the melodramatic lead-up.

No, it's not a porn torture movie. May be if you dont' build up your expectations you won't be disappointed.
Like Rob said it's very slow and I personally didn't find anything stomach turning or scary in it.

I also thought it sucked. I kept telling my wife and brother-in-law how great and scary this movie was supposed to be. Once it was over, I could not avoid all the dirty looks.

wow...man, you must be very young to make a comment like this....use iTunes much?

I hope the transfer is good, the DVD upconvert was incredibly lacking when I watched it.

The first time they showed that bag part, freaked me right the F out...

You are so wrong. As already said; this is NOT a torture porn. But I see that you have already made up your mind, so I won't bother trying to convince you to see it.

Your loss.

Well, it is a torture film, in more than one way too.
An unfortunate dude gets turtured in it, and viewers like me get tortured by boredom and waiting for something to happen...
