The conversation was already moving on from said speculation, so I don't see what benefit there is from bringing it up again. I apologize if the speculation that I partook in was out of line for the thread, and I'll move on from that.

Oh, okay, I misunderstood. Apologies.

Is the Film Noir: The Dark Side of Cinema collection a good introduction to the medium? I just watched IV, and loved An Act of Murder, though the other two (Calcutta and Six Bridges to Cross) were just decent. I haven't seen much else in the genre, but do have the Coen's The Man Who Wasn't There.

No, they're not good intros. They're deeper cuts. Don't get me wrong, some are really good films— I too am a big fan of An Act of Murder— but some of them are just okay or are good but can barely be considered noir.

From Kino's catalog, I recommend the following noirs:

I Wake Up Screaming
The Woman in the Window
The Suspect
Scarlet Street
It Always Rains on Sunday
Pitfall
Kiss The Blood Off My Hands
Night Has a Thousand Eyes
Alias Nick Beal
Cry of the City
99 River Street
The Hitch-Hiker
Touch of Evil

Fun fact: Re-alphabetizing my collection tonight and realized Cohen's Farewell My Queen has a typo on the spine. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

The Terminator was previously with a label (rumored to be Arrow) but they couldn't revise or create a new transfer due to DGA rules and Cameron was too busy with 4 Avatar sequels at the time. Since Avatar 2 is finally releasing and it's sequels are probably completed by now, there may be hope for T1 as Jimmy Boi recently approved 4k HDRs for Abyss and True Lies for 20th Century.

The Paramount announcements are off to a great start with Escape From Alcatraz. This was a no-brainer choice for Kino. Another one that seems like a sure bet is Marathon Man.

I just picked up the BD of that a couple days go. Was super cheap & a blind buy but going by the trailer I think I’ll like it.

Double Indemnity
The Big Heat
Night in the City

Those are good places to start.

Thanks! Just dropped the Noir #1 set for a Fistful of Dollars 4K (separate need to explore westerns) and The Maltese Falcon at BN. I actually already have I Wake Up Screaming; got it from a pawn shop because the title made for a great visual joke. I'll move it up the backlog.

I’ve only ever watched Escape from Alcatraz on Netflix, so this should be a great upgrade.
