Default Letterman v. Palin

Anyone care about this?

I can't believe such a big deal was made over the completely obvious and unfunny "joke".

I'll find a link if no one knows what I'm talking about.

I think this has been a waste of space and time since this started. Everytime someone brings it up, I change the channel or go do something else. But I'm sure Letterman's ratings are benefiting from this....so it's a win for him.

I disagree. Dave should stick to making jokes about Palin, not her kids.

Either way, Dave hasn't been funny since he left NBC.

Letterman's only mistake was using her kid, and it doesn't matter if it was the 18 or 14 year old. Palin is in the public eye, the kids are off limits IMHO. Now, Bristol is sort of injecting herself in the public eye with the whole baby and teen abstinence stuff, but even then it was in poor taste on Dave's part.

I agree, and I can't help but think Palin is making a big deal just to keep the media focused on her.

Erm, this better not be anything to do with politics, cos we all know the rules. Still, there's Colbert and Jon Stewart left if you want the funny stuff.

Lets see a comic crack some jokes about Obama's kids in this way since they are in the public eye and see what happens.

My opinion is that anyone who is a big enough boy to make sex-themed jokes about someone's underage daughter on national TV is big enough to handle the reaction they'll get for it.

This joke would have been quickly forgotten if Palin had just let it go, but in her quest to stay a celebrity she just keeps going on. The funny thing is that it's helping Letterman's ratings. It's also not like CBS would fire him over this. He owns his show and Craig Ferguson's show so it's possible if they fired him they could lose both of their light night shows. In addition, who do you replace Letterman with? Chelsea Handler just re-signed with E! and Jon Stewart and Colbert have both shown they enjoy where they are. Odds are they'd have to hire a Jimmy Fallon type with little experience. This would likely give The Tonight Show a permanent advantage in the late night game, and even Jimmy Kimmel could surpass CBS.

I don't think he should be fired. He offered an apology and the Palins accepted it.

Of course, I didn't think Howard Stern should have been fired either but some people thought he did.

Should there be a difference in punishment for making a tasteless joke in public one group over another? If there is a difference, then why?

The daughter (Willow) that was with Sarah in New York at the time, which was the basis of the jokes, is 14.

The joke was made with him thinking the 18 year old was at Yankee Stadium but it was actually the 14 year old. Simple misunderstanding. Regardless, who cares? Palin needs to fade away. And quickly. Letterman should never have had to apologize. Too many people in this country need to shut up and quit trying to worry about what's best for the rest of us.

The joke was that Palin and her daughter went to a Yankees game while in NY and ARod got the daughter pregnant during the game.

The backpedal was that he was somehow talking about the older daughter that wasn't in NY or at a Yankees game. Some folks didn't buy it.

Palin is going to do everything in her power to not fade away. She wants to run for President in 2012 and to do that she needs to stay in the spotlight.
