At the store I work at we just got a new Samsung 46" LCD that is 1080p and 120hz and it just looks amazing...but it is also like $3300. I'm curious if anyone knows of a TV that has those features, but maybe a bit cheaper and possibly slightly smaller, I don't need 46".

jesus, i just checked out the specs on this thing, its amazing. 25000:1 contrast ratio. it is actually relevently cheap for the price i think. bestbuy does it for a little over 3 grand. i know there is a phillips coming out soon that does 120hz.

The 120hz LCD's are becoming more abundant these days. I have a Sharp 46" that has the 120hz feature. I absolutely love my Sharp and am happy I bought it, but it was not cheap (roughly $3600 with tax).
The new Sony LCD's will have 120hz and the new Samsung's do too. The reality is that 120hz is on the cutting edge today, so you will pay more for it. On a related note, I was looking at a local ad in the weekend papaer and it was advertising a Samsung LED LCD that claims it has 500,000:1 contrast ratio. I have not seen that model yet, but am very curious about it. I believe the asking price was $3899. The shame about all of these new HDTV's is that they keep getting better and better. Today's top of the line product will be yesterday's news next year. |

no no no the 500k to 1 is no longer true they bumped it down to 100k. also dont be completely fooled dynamic ratio's are not true numbers.
Also for the OP. comparing the 71 series samsung to the sony xbr4 the xbr4 has a better picture and despite having a lower "dynamic" contrast appears to do alot better than the sammy. Sammy's dynamics are always high but their natives are terribly low. I'd look for the xbr4 someplace online im sure you can find it for like 3k |

I work at Best Buy and that Samsung you saw was a 4671 model number. They make a 40" in it. That TV is amazing. The new XBR4's from Sony are also 120Hz. Sony makes a 32" that is 120 but not 1080P. We have that Samsung TV on a Samsung BDP-1200 and it looks absolutely sick (in a good way). Best Buy is always willing to talk price, just don't demand a deal, ask politely. The 4071 is right about $2400 but it can be widled down to $1700 with other offers. What store do you work at? There has to be an employee discount.

I just bought a 46" Sony KDL-46V3000 from Best Buy over the weekend for less than $2500.
It has 120hz, and also accepts 1080p/24. Blacks are awesome, so don't buy into the dynamic contrast ratio. 120hz really did make a difference to us. The image has less grain (pixelization I guess) and just seems more fluid. Maybe that me trying to convince myself it was a good choice. ![]() |

Go into best buy. Purchase the Samsung LN-T4071 at 2399.99. Sign up for basic Direct TV service and don't ask for any of the boxes from Direct TV. When Direct calls to schedule just tell them you changed you mind. By signing up for DirectTV Best Buy cuts $300 off of the TV. So you could rock that TV in your home for $2100. And that my friend is pretty tits.

The LED LCD really isnt that impressive. I sell it in my MHT store and its bright, but not worth the money. It is still a fairly good LCD, but typical of Samsung out of the box, bright, high contrast and over saturated with color. Turn off all of the noise reduction and stuff and it looks better, Definitely spend the money on a calibration with this set.

It's $3300 before discount. Would be $2970 + tax as an employee.
The sony tv I could price match BB for $2400...but if the tv goes on sale for that at some point, I could use my discount and Get it for $2160... Last edited by Palanthian; 09-05-2007 at 10:45 PM. |
