Nearly 420 themed, got this email today from Enjoy The Ride Records. New variations of the soundtrack!

Quote:
On Sale Friday at 11AM ET and Noon ET:
Miami Connection ("Cocaine" White Powder-Filled Variant and Colored Vinyl Variants)

unnamed.jpg

Enjoy The Ride Records and Drafthouse Films proudly present Miami Connection. Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. Composed and Produced by Angelo Janotti and performed by Dragon Sound, the soundtrack is finally making its debut outside of the cult classic film. Written and directed by 9th-degree black belt philosopher/author/inspirational speaker Supreme Grandmaster Y.K. Kim, the film tells the story of the fearless synth-rock band Dragon Sound as they embark on a roundhouse wreck-wave of crime-crushing justice in the streets of Orlando, in order to achieve world peace.

Miami Connection was almost lost when Hurricane Charley destroyed the film's original assets in 2004. Drafthouse Films and Enjoy The Ride Records were able to reconstruct the audio using the best source materials available, which were of inconsistent quality. This is why certain sections of the soundtrack show more signs of wear and tear than others.

Enjoy The Ride Exclusive Variants
Clear & White Split with Neon Blue and Pink Splatter, Limited to 250
Neon Nights Pie Chart Split with Splatter, Limited to 300

Side A
Escape From Miami
Friends
Against The Ninja
Tough Guys
Trainyard
I Love You
Tae Kwon Do Family

Side B
Dragon Sound: Live At Fantastic Fest
Friends (Instrumental/Karaoke Version)
Against The NInja (Instrumental/Karaoke Version)

IMPORTANT NOTES, PLEASE READ
These images are photographs of the actual records - these are NOT mock-ups. With that said, and with any colorful vinyl record we design, we CAN NOT guarantee they will look exactly like this, and no two records will be exactly the same. Please keep that in mind when purchasing.

This release upon request can be shipped outside the sleeve to avoid seam splits. To clarify, It will come packaged in a full-color jacket (as pictured) sealed in a perforated polybag (this release is NOT in shrink wrap) UNLESS requested in the comment section of your order to open the album and place the album outside the jacket. This is a good way to prevent potential seam splits along the top of the jacket due to careless handling en route to you, and we DO NOT have extra jackets for this release. Thank you!

Limit 2 per color per customer.

unnamed (3).jpg

On Friday at 11 AM ET, the "Cocaine" White Powder-Filled* Variant of Miami Connection will be available for purchase. These are a PRE-ORDER, and these will take up to 20 weeks to ship. These are all hand-assembled and require special care to create, so this is a process that cannot be rushed, hence the turn-around time. ALL "Cocaine" White Powder-Filled* Pre-Orders MUST be ordered separately, without any other items and Priority Shipping needs to be chosen at checkout (these have to be insured, due to the nature of the item). Limit of 1 per customer - if you order more, your order will be canceled!

*We shouldn't have to type this, but to be clear: these records are not filled with real drugs, and the contents housed inside the record are purely for decoration only - keep away from your nostrils. Drugs are bad, m'kay?

Nothing was sent to subscribers. The film doesn't release until late May. Subscribers will get the same version that's currently for sale.

Umbrella getting the short end of the stick out here, I see - stuck with the old Drafthouse disc video and audio, and releasing a month or so after VinSyn to boot.

But hey, at least they get to be the only place you can officially get the soundtrack on CD, I suppose?

EDIT: Oh, and they've got the Rifftrax commentary included on disc, for those that are into that.

Somehow the (supposedly) 100 of these haven't sold out yet, so if anyone's still keen for the package it remains available.

Whether or not there's really just 100 of these is anyone's guess, but I suppose most hardcore fans are ordering VinSyn's version anyway.

EDIT: That's a wrap, it's sold out.

Has anyone had their copy ship yet? I've never ordered directly from Vinegar Syndrome before.

They won’t start shipping until after this weekend’s sale is over. It typically takes a while to ship everyone’s sales orders out - the order they go in is Subscriber’s first, then those who did Flash Preorders (assuming you’re in this group since you got MC), then rest of the sales.

Got a ways to go - will probably be 2-3 weeks, I think?

They said they would ship to non subscribers starting June 6th.

Awesome! Thank you! Not that I'm impatient or anything, I was just curious about a time frame.

Bummer. I pre-ordered as soon as it went up and was hoping to have it by next weekend. Oh well, I'm sure it'll be worth the wait. As much as I'm looking forward to picture upgrade, I'm really hoping for a clean, lossless 2.0 track so I can bang the Dragon Sound!

Got my copy this afternoon - haven't had the chance to give it a spin yet, but noticed this fun little printing error(?) on the disc:
[Show spoiler]

I'm not sure if Miami Connection is as cruel of a picture as Thriller, but there it is.

Let us know how the transfer looks whenever you can. Dying to know if it’s a good upgrade from the drafthouse version.

I spent a few minutes tonight skimming through to get an initial impression (and listen to Dragon Sound - repeatedly), as I know in the world of boutique Blu-rays, timing is often a factor!

Please note I don't have a professionally calibrated TV or home theatre or anything fancy like that - just an OLED and settings I like. I have also never owned or seen the Drafthouse release of Miami Connection, despite my best efforts to obtain it, so my analysis here is based on the screenshots on this website and footage from Alamo Drafthouse's YouTube channel. I'm aware there were some issues with mixed source material for AD's release but I won't be able to comment fully on the difference.

First of all, the film looks great to me - definition is probably about on par with a very good standard blu-ray release of a better known film of the era (some shots are soft, some sharp as a tack), with lots of natural grain. Definitely not a 2/5 this time around.

There's a fair amount of flecks on the footage itself, but nothing too egregious. In the Drafthouse trailer there's a shot of Dragon Sound performing (at around 0:37) with some pretty noticeable black flecks - those are vastly reduced in the VinSyn version (but then, maybe they never made it to AD's release).

One thing I can say for sure is the colour timing has been vastly improved by the new transfer and HDR - the screenshot of Maurice Smith's infamous crying scene from the Drafthouse release is very blue, but in the VinSyn version the skin tones and background look far more natural.

Overall my first impressions are very good - I'm intending on watching the whole thing tomorrow, so if I have anything else to add I'll do so then.

Hope this helps!

Nice, thank you! Is the sound 2.0, 5.1, or 7.1?

DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0, with a Dolby Digital 2.0 track for the audio commentary.
