When I watched this for the first time I was shocked to realize this was a comedy and not a horror film. Not the biggest fan but more Michael Chapman cinematography in 4K is fine by me

There's plenty of proper horror and gore in there too though! It's both.

Maybe you have to have seen it at a certain age, but it's one of my favourite all time films.

I saw this in the cinema in Feb 1988, great film. To be honest I thought it was a comedy too!

Well yeah, there's definitely plenty of black humour and a loving spoof of vampire lore. Like I said, it's both, not one or the other. The mix of the two is a recognised genre in it's own right. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comedy_horror

When you get past the different character types and setting, it's actually treading the same ground as Fright Night (another favourite and one that Lost Boys probably owes a lot to for paving the way) in it's mix of humour, affectionate spoof and horror elements. Ultimately both also take the threat very seriously in the end, but Lost Boys has an extra twist or two at the end that was inspired even if we're used to it now.

Fright Night and the sequel are my favourite horror comedies.

As many great genre movies from that time period, it mixes different tones brilliantly.

Fright Night is a nice mix of horror, with comedy elements. I haven't seen enough of TLB to say if that one is too though.

There is definitely an element of comedy in The Lost Boys, and it pulls it off extremely well. Same with Fright Night.

Jordan Peele's "Us" may make a good Horror/ parts comedy(?) double bill with "The Lost Boys".

Both films shot in beautiful Santa Cruz, California.

Us even references them filming Lost Boys in the beginning.

Wow it lasted in the theatres that long? It was first released on 7/31/87.

Not in the UK!

In those days we were about 6 months behind the US!

Man I wish this was coming from a boutique label. This movie is just begging for new special features… still gonna be day 1 for me. I’ve had the one-sheet poster framed and hanging on my wall since middle school. Not to mention I worked at the Santa Cruz boardwalk all through college…

Which has the best artwork I'll buy it. With a 4K remaster presented in native 4K (2160p) and HDR, I'm sure it will be superior to the older Blu-ray release. Just like with A Clockwork Orange, The Shining, and The Shawshank Redemption. If and I hoped for a Dolby Atmos tracks, I'm sure that Warner Bros will add its regular DTS-HD MA 5.1 tracks on the 4K UHD just like with many 80s and 90s Blu-ray's by Warner replacing their Dolby TrueHD 5.1 tracks from the Blu-ray.
