And, like I posted a week or so back, the Blu-ray edition was based on a new HD master, not the master used for the 2005 DVD version, so no expense was spared.
And, in case I have not said this before, I remember PaidGeek talking about the work here, so a tip of the hat to him.

No worries, it's purely ceremonial.

EDIT: Yep, Danny McBride. Being Southern by birth myself, his act reminds me of about half a dozen of my uncles and cousins. He nails it.

I've actually never seen Ghostbusters 2. I'm feeling in the mood, though, and I may have to check it out.

It was simply a BDA presentation recommending to all attendees to become more involved in addressing the concerns of consumers, including those posted on internet forums.

Instead........on AVS with promotion by Amir, it got spun from a presentation into a viral marketing campaign known as “Project Hydra” in which shills disclosing no affiliation or upfront support for Blu-ray were going around the internet posting pro-Blu-ray information.

Like I said, the nonsense spouted by the A-man knew no limits.
Wasn't it "Phase Hydra"? Or is my old man memory going?...

I seem to remember it being Phase Hydra also. And the AVS redants were quick to label any pro-BD poster as being part of it. They could never wrap their little minds around the fact that someone might actually prefer BD. They had been brainwashed by Amir by stretching the fact the bitrate did not matter. I agree there are dimishing returns at some point but they got used to VC-1 encodes routinely running in the low teens and dropping into the single digits. Nevermind the fact that many of those encodes were from Warner and they quickly were termed 'Warner softies' since much of the high frequency detail was removed. Well of course if you remove all the HF detail then bitrate does become meaningless.

Sorry but I prefer my HD to actually be 'HD' rather than 'HD-in-name-only'

On another note, haven't we just crossed the year anniversary of the last Warner HD DVD release? Time to raise the glasses and rub it in the losers' faces one more time.

That's exactly what it was!!! "The BD camp is so worried...they've entered into 'phase hydra' to stem the losses of customers to the HD DVD camp. They must be getting desperate."

That's the thing that got me, they championed titles like Batman Begins that didn't look as sharp as it did in the theater, yet they claimed it was "reference". The double standards many had over there that were supposedly "neutral" was another big reason for leaving.. Praising to hell DNR'd titles on HD DVD, but even an touch of DNR on blu-ray they'd blast it until no end.

I'll join you in that toast the day I can get a North American-release Blu-ray of Casablanca without necessarily purchasing a limited edition collector's luggage tag at the same time.

Adorable! There's the tone of conversation I was referring to!

I'll leave someone else to parse how the suggestion to "go out and spread the word" may appear from differing sides on a debate. Heck, what if you didn't -know- you were a part of a project/phase, but were being subtlely conditioned (through positive feedback, comunity acceptance, etc.) to spout the party line without even knowing you were being conditioned! Oooh, it's like the Matrix! The mind reels.

Anyhooooo, for those that haven't seen Grand Prix in HD, it'll be a real treat - the film's not quite up to modern standards from a narrative standpoint, but the shots of Monaco are breathtaking. Absolute must-have title in HD, regardless of format preference... Here's hoping the BD is forthcoming, and (most importantly) you all put your money on the table and support such releases...

BTW, Penton, that link to the (local boy) Reitman clip was amusingly edited, kind of reminded me of the Simpsons where video of homer is cut stataccato style... "Sweet...sweeet....Can" Was pleased that the one title he pointed to was Third Man. Mmm... Criterionliscious....

What was really sad was anyone who had paid attention to a select few insiders here (like Max), PLUS the leak from the guy at Lionsgate in the Fall of 07 (remember the whole, "Word is Warner is coming over to our side" fiasco), could "reasonably" conclude that Warner was leaning to going Blu in January 2008. Of course, "reasonable" is not a word I would use to describe a good majority of HD DVD'ers. I think by November of 2007, a few of us here were 95% sure WB was going Blu. From there, it was pure entertainment watching some people continue to live in their own little worlds missing the clues...

But whatever guys. It's been over for 18months. Who cares. Let the idiots be idiots. We won! The better product won!

I can agree with you on that. I don't like how Warner is attempting to price gouge Blu consumers by forcing them to purchase these 'collector sets' that are basically composed of extras that cost pennies to produce.

I want Casablanca and Oz as much as anyother collector, but I am not being forced to buy something I dont want cluttering my shelfs. At least with the Limited Edition HP 1-5 boxset you get that for under $100 and that came with 5 movies. I am not buying a collector set for $50 that has one movie. I refuse to pay LD niche-like prices on mainstream product.

I'm waiting for The Train for my HD Frankenheimer fix.

To paraphrase Homer, "Mmm... deep... focus..."
