Did this really sell out its first week? Either scalpers went crazy over this one or Sony WAY underestimated demand. Hope they announce a standard non-limited UHD edition soon. There's no reason a film like Lawrence shouldn't be able to stay in circulation.

Probably a combination of underestimating demand and scalpers. Repeat of A Clockwork Orange. WB underestimated that one, and the scalpers got every copy in sight and sold them as “RARE” and “OOP” on eBay. LoA is getting the same treatment now. Considering that almost a year later I have still not physically seen a copy of ACO (but I’ve seen plenty of empty spots for it), LoA will be impossible to get for a while. If possible, get it directly from Sony.

Judging by how Sony works - I suppose eventually, in some year, there'll be a standard Lawrence of Arabia edition - but it won't have the bonus disc. It's why I bought the steelbook.

Aditionally, some DV reissues (this is not the case) don't seem like they'll ever come out as a standard edition as they should.

Yeah, but such promotion has been so shamelessly abused for so many decades that nobody pays attention to it anymore.

DeepDiscount seemingly had it in stock about half an hour ago when I placed an order. Right after it went on backorder. Fingers crossed I get a copy.

If I could I’d take a walk down to my Walmart I would, they probably have this. My Target just got the tags for some September 2021 rereleases, but no discs. They’ve become about as useful as an alarm clock set six hours late.

Wow, didn't expect this to sell out so quickly. But then again, it's Lawrence... Also wanted to pick this up with my Target Buy-2-Get-1-Free order, but they were already OOS on Lawrence (Bridge was still available). Guess I will have to get the Zavvi steelbook instead.

Do you (or another UK user) mind sharing pics for the Zavvi steel? They way you write it makes it sound like a major screw up lol.

Pretty much every single release that is being advertised as limited also ends up being actually limited. At the beginning of the blu-ray era, the major studios vastly overestimated the demand for their product, which is why you could see a lot of the Warner UCEs and digibooks being available for close to a decade (and often times heavily discounted in the end). But even those did sell out eventually. (King Kong digibook etc.) So yes, limited usually means limited. Though admittedly releases rarely sell out on release date, unless it's attractive releases of highly popular films (or the market is a highly packaging focused collectors' market - European steelbook releases often sell out before their American counterparts and vice versa).

If anyone is still in search of a steelbook copy, I found one at my local Barnes today. Got it for about $30 doing in store pick up with the TBRPILE code.

I'm going to take the side -- 1st delivery batches are selling out and awaiting second batches. Backordered, not permanent.

I don't buy that it's completely sold out and not going to be replenished.

That said BBY and BN stores have it in stock, Bullmoose has it for in-store and shipping.

My DD cart still says it's instock, but several of the other Alliance Storefronts have it listed backordered.

I guess all those studio memos I received way back when, with charts and data exclaiming early Blu-ray adoption exceeding expectations and even outpacing early dvd and cd adoption were wrong. Sorry, but your theory is as unfounded as people who like to pretend BD is a niche format. To most producers, limited doesn't mean a whole lot of anything. It's pure, unregulated marketing hype that can mean anything or nothing at all. At best it's to drive early sells at full price. But most producers aren't looking to handicap their profits, so there's usually a variant ready to follow, assuming it's not even announced at the same time, like Arrow does. If a producers market research is really off, they just produce more, like Shout has, despite promoted number restrictions. But there have been plenty of releases that were essentially limited in name only. In fact during the most of the DVD era, it was essentially SOP to slap limited on cover art when there was nothing remotely limited about it. They essentially produced as many as they expected to sell, and then some just in case. The same is still frequently true today, just in smaller numbers. Limited doesn't mean it's limited to a single pressing. Just because something is still in circulation a decade later doesn't mean it was overproduced. It was never meant to be limited to early adopters only. No company sets out to unnecessarily limit their profits. That's the only reason studios are still producing physical media at all: there's still far too much demand for studios to ignore the profit potential. If any Hollywood producer puts a genuine cap on production, you can bet said cap exceeds what they expect they'll need to meet demand. Anything else can only mean they have some nefarious agenda for the release, where they stand to gain more, now or in the long game, from handicapping sells. Which is unlike Sony, which actually has something to gain from BDs continued viability. So, hopefully Sony has more waiting in the wings or plan to follow this up shortly with a non-steel edition, and any scalpers who thought they found a proverbial goldmine will get burned.

Hopefully they still have them in the warehouse, but it's hard to be optimistic when even amazon doesn't show "more on the way".
