I added it to the Superior International List as well.

Watched it last night, and it's very good. May be some DNR, but hell, Riki-Oh has only ever had the bargain basement VHS look on all home video releases. This is actual HD, and it's a revelation. Every sludgy bit of gut gruel, every exploded head chunk and eyeball mint is visible like never before. This is one of those 'see it again, for the first time' discs. A niche title to be sure, and the fact that it's region locked makes it even more limited, for this board. If you've read this thread, and like this movie, why are you not region-free? Better get on that.

Who would have thought there'd be TWO good blu-rays of Story of Ricky? The AT disc definitely comes from the same master. I prefer the slightly sharper UK image, but I do mean slightly:

The German disc appears to offer genuine Chinese (Cantonese presumably) mono:

DTS-HD Master Audio >> Chinese >> 768 kbps >> 1.0 / 48 kHz / 24-bit (DTS Core: 1.0 / 48 kHz / 768 kbps / 24-bit)

Does the German copy have the fixed audio? Also, is there an English Track?

Does the Spanish Blu-Ray use the same remaster as the U.K. disc?

With all the HK movies getting releases here, I wouldn't be surprised if this hits the US in the next 12 months.

Got a notification from DiabolikDVD yesterday that they received more copies of the LE edition of the Region B 88 Films release and I snagged that S.O.B. like there was no tomorrow.

Been hoping to grab a copy of the LE for some time now and thankfully, I can finally cross that one off my list.

RIKI-OH on the Criterion Channel actually opens with both the Criterion and Janus logos. Looks like we now know who has the US home media release rights!

Unfortunately, it appears to have the same flat color grading as the 88 Films/Mediumrare Blu-Rays, which is why I haven’t bought the 88 yet in the first place. Not sure why Fortune Star has to do this. :/

I know the Tokyo Shock blu-ray is supposed to be hot garbage but I grabbed it on ebay for 22 bucks in case this continues to be elusive.

Hopefully my purchase leads to an imminent 4k for the rest of you.

It's a horrible upscale I chucked out as soon as I got the UK blu (Mediumrare, there's a newer release from 88Films based on the same master), which is not ideal (more filtered than I'd like), but it's at least true HD and light years ahead of this shitshow.
