That's so weird, I watched The Sum of All Fears yesterday and had no idea he had passed away.

Yikes, possibly while I was actually watching the film.

I remember him the most from his collaborations with P.T. Anderson.

Apparently Arrow Video has done a 4K restoration for Videodrome. Curious to see if Criterion releases a 4K in the US and Arrow just handles international, or if Arrow has the US rights now as well.

R.I.P.

Patiently waiting for the rumored Hard Eight release. (I'm well aware of the Australian Imprint release, thank you.)

Wasn't Lost Highway 4k said to be 2023 from some person involved who said so in some reddit AMA?

Wasn't Magnificent Seven going to be relased by Kino? That's what I heard in one of the Kino threads.

Not sure if anything has changed, but at one point the Insider (possibly the previous one MisterLime) said it was with "another label", Now we know MGM deals 4K rights separately, so who knows really. I just threw that in as my atypical guess as the rest of them Criterion will be releasing one time or another (hopefully).

edit: Petite Maman isn't actually confirmed to be with Criterion either, but so far NEON has not announced any BD of it, and it would make sense for CC to get it, since they got Portrait of a Lady on Fire too.

Truth be told, I could have easily lived out the remainder of my life enjoying the existing Criterion Blu-ray of Le Samouraï.

I am all eyes and ears for a new 4K restoration, though.

Incidentally, I am pleased with the recent 4K UHD release of Le Cercle Rouge. (I own the StudioCanal edition.)

For tomorrow's announcements, it would be awesome if it's Seventh Seal 4K, Branded to Kill 4K (unlikely), or a release of The Dirty Dozen. All three of them are having their anniversaries tomorrow (Branded and Dirty are turning 55 while Seventh Seal turns 65)

Watched La Strada today, the newest master streaming in a virtual screening room by Martin Scorsese’s Film Foundation. Great movie but is it just me or should it have been matted to 1.85:1? In the 1.37:1 presentation there’s a lot of headroom, and tilting to keep everything in a narrow center space. Judging from a few cursory screengrabs, things line up a lot better along the “rule of thirds” lines in 1.85 too.
