Great news. Here's hoping they can re-release the other films too eventually. I wonder how long the wait for Blu-ray (4K too?) from Gkids will be.

Yes, but this is significantly even more inconsistent as GKIDS sticks to one style of spine. The really odd one out was 1.11.

Maybe you’ll get lucky and Crunchyroll will license the film for the UK. Of course, GKIDS will probably end up getting the other 3 down the road.

I never bought any of the films in hopes they would release the 4th. Now, i'm going to have to buy 1.11 at a crazy inflated price, but that's my fault for waiting so long. Still, nice that we will be getting all 4 on Blu-ray now, even if the spines won't match.

Glad we are going to be getting the last film on blu eventually. Hopefully even 4K if we are lucky. Maybe next they can bring the 4K of 3.333 over

Well, better with GKids than anyone else. That said, forget Shelf inconsistency, DUB inconsistency here we come (unless they can't afford the dub license from Amazon).

BTB, EST rights?

*googles information*

Why not call them digital rights?

I sold my copies of the first three movies during my declutter in hopes that GKIDS would release all four films in steelbooks. Crossing my fingers for consistency sake.

Because "digital" also includes rights to stream w/o direct purchase. Amazon bought those rights worldwide for the films much like Netflix bought the same rights for the TV series and the original films. Gkids has the same rights that they do for those titles here. They can sell episodes/films individually or as a set, but they can't sell them for Subscription Video On Demand and probably Advertising-based Video On Demand (free versions like for Pluto TV/Tubi TV).

Considering Anime Limited are in the credits for 3.0+1.01 I'm fully expecting them to take over the Rebuild series for the UK, so GKIDS getting their hands on the US rights does help.

Also if AL gets their hands on the film, 4K would be more likely than Crunchyroll releasing it
[Show spoiler]in SDR
.

On another note, while 1.11 & 2.22 are getting reprints in the UK I would argue it's more or less a final push to make sales in a similar fashion to 5 Centimeters per Second which got a BD release then went OOP like 6 months later.

I hope GKids gets the first 3 films too.

Excited to own the fourth physically.

Thanks for the explanation.

If digital is too vague to distinct from buying a work digitally or streaming a work, I wish for a more streamline description than EST.

I wonder what implications this has for the timing of the Japanese Blu-ray (and perhaps UHD) release, as I've been very much looking forward to finally completing my JP collection for some time now.

Thank you, GKIDS! I'm still hoping for a complete set announcement to be released around the same time, but I'm glad to hear that at least the distribution of the final film is moving forward.

I haven't opened my Collector's Edition blu-ray set yet... I've read the review, but can anyone here comment on whether I should just stick with my Platinum DVD set?

I only really wanted the ADV dub series and movies... but I now think I could just get the regular edition blu-ray for the movies, and keep my DVDs for the series.

But is the quality/1080p really worth it?

The Blurays blow the DVDs out of the water quality wise. Only reason to keep the DVDs is if you want Fly me to the Moon and the broadcast versions of 21-24.

Also the video extras, English commentary tracks, and the Shinji's Rant easter egg, lots of video extras weren't carried over. Note that the Platinum thinpak was already missing all this stuff.

All the bonus features in the Platinum DVDs that were sourced from Japan are also in the GKIDS Blu-ray sets, while the bonus features from the ADV dub cast/crew simply don't matter because they had no involvement in the actual making of Evangelion in the first place.
