Hate em hate em haaaaaaaaaaate em.

They're a transparent attempt by companies to charge premium prices for catalog titles without giving you really anything to justify the price. The packages are of varying quality, they look terrible on a shelf with the rest of your Blu Rays, and the books are pretty much worth one look through and then they'll never be opened again. It's not surprising at all that it's Warner, king of shitty packaging, that spearheaded it. First snappers, then digibooks. What next?

The pathetic part is that so many people fall for it.

I don't like Digibooks either and so far haven't bought one.

I'd be down for them making both Digi and Non-Digi versions available.

No, what's pathetic is someone who calls themselves a fan of a movie but lets the packaging stop them from buying it because "it isn't uniform with the rest of my collection." Some people are just so anal about little insignificant matters that won't make a difference 10 years from now.

I don't buy them because they're a cheap attempt to jack up the price. I'm not paying 25-30 goddamn dollars for a catalog title, especially with this economy, because Warner threw in some stupid book and packaging.

I think that the other several threads discussing this topic including the one that is three posts down from this one offer plenty of opinions on the topic.

Lol. You are funny. Most people don't pay even $25 dollars. Most blu-ray's are at $24 and under. SOME might peak $28 but come down in a few weeks after release.

If money is that tight for you that you need to mention the "economy", perhaps this is not the best place for you to be spending your money? Just because YOU don't see fit to pay a higher price, does not stop me or anyone else to pay that price. We all have our limits. Each one of us has a point that we call "too much".

But you'll pay that price for something like Chug King Express and the 3rd Man? Those are catalog titles that run about the same price. Wait I guess your one of those Criterion fanatics. The economy can't be hurting you that bad. If you look around you can find the digibook movies for under $19.99. I don't think I've paid more then that for any of mine.

And one other thing. In case you haven't noticed, most catalog title run that price even in the cheap plastic cases.

Agreed. WTF does the economy have to do with you not wanting to buy a movie?

Well if you haven't noticed, the economy has made quite a few jobless/ homeless people. However, those people shouldn't be concerned with paying a premium just for the packaging, they should be avoiding Bluray all together so they can pay the rest of their bills!

Exactly.

Anyone complaining about the economy and how tight things are - should not be buying blu-rays. They are NOT a necessity. Bills, gas, food are. Everything else is either saved or you buy 1 item a month or something.

Digibooks are okay for certain releases. I own 2 (Cuckoo's Nest, and Poltergeist). I am not sure about the longevity of the books, but they seem pretty sturdy. At least they are not as bad as those terrible cardboard clamshell dvd cases back in the day that Paramount liked to use.

I prefer steelbook than those digibook, because the digibook is taller than most other disk cover, make the stand loo uneven, and steel case is much more reliable and cooler, what can't movie studio gave what they want, seems like europe get steel case just about every major film.
