It comes down to a font issue. The original had a medieval/gothic font (quite unique), that was burned in/forced and obviously intended by Coppola.

The past few releases we've only had the player generated subs. I know the original font is on the Criterion LaserDisc. Not sure about the DVD releases, but we've never gotten it on Blu-ray...until now.

Oh that's awesome! Is there a comparison somewhere of how it looked originally vs the recent releases?
