Default Spectrum (Fr) Johnnie To Early Films

Anyone noticed all those French releases of a lot of Johnnie To's harder to get older movies? I can across them as I was trying to chase down the rare HK Lifeline blu-ray and saw they just releases that.
  • The Bare Footed Kid
  • Expect the Unexpected (5.1 audio)
  • A Hero Never Dies (2.0 audio)
  • Lifeline (5.1 audio)
  • The Longest Nite (5.1 audio)
  • Loving You (2.0 audio)
I picked up most of them (other than The Bare Footed Kid)

They have a lot of other unique titles as well, some Korean titles like Microhabitat, The Isle.

Downside obviously is no English subs, but I'm working through that.

They ship internationally too (I was waiting on FNAC to list Lifeline, but they never did so I discovered they ship internationally)

I believe there was some controversy around the three early Milkyway ones having been scanned in the wrong aspect ratio. Was that ever clarified?

Spectrum also has a PTU box that doesn't just include the original but the line of direct-to-video quasi-sequels that came out in the late 2000s, some of which are pretty decent, plus Michael Ingham's book on PTU. A shame that releases this luxurious are limited to being in French only.

No idea on the ARs but if you can tell me which ones I can check

I didn't realize on the PTU box. I didn't even look as I had the movie already. I should have realized that with the "Coffret"... Hmmm.

Anyhow, when the subs are ready you'll find them here. Got a couple sorted already.

Hmm. Either way I'll take these over the DVDs. Doesn't seem heavily substantiated,

Expect the Unexpected - image is 1920x833 (2.3:1)
A Hero Never Dies - image is 1920x818 (2.35:1)

Looks good though honestly

I've put up timed subs for these now. Plus Lifeline.

Yes I'm in Brisbane.
A
Maybe two weeks, I think. To be honest I'm not sure, but I remember being surprised it was so quick as I was expecting the typical 6 -8 week shipping I get from Europe.

They actually shipped it in two packs, postpacks but they put cardboard around the cases. I had about 7 items so I think 3, 4 in each.
