There is no need for me to buy any of this Day One. I didn't for the 1-4 box. I'm going to wait for the inevitable price drops.

If the DLX is limited and sold out it will not mean a hill of beans to me. I will wait for the inevitable reissue [probably first in a new 1-6 box with a new exclusive bonus disc then individually released by itself )

Plus someone on here pointed out the SLV will only contain 6 minutes not in the Director's cut. I can live without it. But if the DLX comes down to $50 I'll pull the trigger.

By the way, I'm loving all the new Star Trek threads! I'm learning new sh!t too! [as I was schooled on Godfather III and the above SLV]

The only classic Star Trek I own/bought on BD (or DVD) is the Khan remaster, so I have no issues with "having to" buy the expensive tat edition now. And will add the individuals of 2 - 6. Works perfectly fine for me.

But well played Paramount, well played - you really know how to do it.

That post is such an obvious ploy....and clearly I'm it's intended target as it got me off my duff to pre-order these. My first purchase with Bullmoose, I want to see if they will be a viable alternative to Amazon, as I absolutely dreaded ordering these from Amazon with their trash packing.

For me, especially with the discs in cardboard sleeves, I think the Deluxe Complete Adventure of ST:TMP is going to be more of a collectible for me than anything. Most likely a waste of money (watch, now that I fell for this, they'll be stacked 3 deep at Best Buy in October) but it's one of my favorites of the series. And considering how many fans have this film competing with V for the bottom of their list, I can't image this movie getting this kind of release love ever again.

Since I already have the 4-film set, I also ordered the stand-alone DE, V and VI. But then I just broke down and went ahead and order the stand-alones of the II - IV as well for the package art. Again, probably a waste of $60 since I already have them in the 4-film set, but the steelbook thing may happen...and it may not, and I don't want to regret not getting these.

Personally, I'm willing to throw money at this because I honestly believe this will be the last time I upgrade these films.

I'm sure they're going to start trying to push 8K or Stupendo-Vision or whatever at some point in the future. But I'm been buying classic Doctor Who on BLU more for the space savings as the format is so beyond the source material the amount of improvement in picture quality is negligible.

The wife and I watched the 4K of the Trouble With Harry last weekend, and while the picture quality was stunning, if you pressed me to explain exactly how it's better and the film on BLU, I'd be hard-pressed to do it.

I just feel the technology has gotten to a point where I'm having a hard time imagining it getting any better than this, a least better enough to justify another upgrade.

I just hope if they do decide to do steels they'll at least give me some time to recuperate from this purchase. And brace myself for when they eventually release the Original TV Series on 4K as I'll be ALL-IN on that.

I want to make sure I get this set at the best price and undamaged. I'm not too confident in Amazon getting it to me mint but they do price match if their price drops and I'm sure it will. How is Bull Moose as far as shipping and price drops when one preorders?

I've said it on other threads, but one solution to this is rounded CD sleeves (i.e. Mini-LP sleeves). They are the CD/DVD/BD equivalent of "elephant condom" sleeves on Laserdiscs. And they are thin enough that you can place your discs into them before sliding them back into the cardboard case, protecting against scratches.

I've been using them for book-style packages ever since I picked up that Bond 50 set a decade ago.

As far as what Fein says, I think he's correct since the last master for the Special Longer Version was made something like 35 years ago. Some of us won't be around 35 years from now if they finally do reissue it again. AFAIK they never reissued the VHS and LDs after the 25th Anniversary LBX masters, and of course it didn't appear on DVD or BD.
PS: I remember picking up the CD-Video (Philips CD-i) of Star Trek I and being bitterly disappointed it was the Theatrical Cut rather than the Special Longer Version on the packaging! I couldn't return it to Incredible Universe because of the usual store policy of not accepting returns of opened media.

Sell out in pre-order? Nope. It's not a numbered set. They probably haven't even been made yet. They'll start manufacturing once they have estimated demand.

TMP is my favorite Trek movie; but it's not beloved by all. So I don't think this cardboard cash grab will be all that successful. I'll roll the dice and wait until it's on sale.

That's how the original unaltered Star Wars trilogy was marketed before special editions came out. So far they have kept their word, unfortunately.

Just placed my preorder at UK Amazon this morning. I'm not a huge Star Trek fan, but I do like the first movie enough to purchase this deluxe edition. I have other Star Trek movies on blu-ray in the box set, but I may consider buying them on 4K later on. At the moment I may buy The Godfather set before that. Fortunately these Treks aren't limited editions.

Amazon is showing #1 seller in action/adventure. That's something.

And just to add to this, Paramount often include the Blu-ray on their UK UHDs that are issued as just UHDs only for the US market. Not always, but often.

Remember how people initially had trouble getting hold of the 1-4 UHD set in the US? Paramount don’t typically press a lot of copies for catalogue product over there and so even if this isn’t numbered or being marketed as a strictly limited edition I can well believe that they won’t be going overboard with it, especially as the 2-6 standalones and the 1-6 box set will be coming at the same time. That’s a lotta discs. But if it’s like other US sets that are genuinely sold out, like the Ghostbusters ultimate collection (Sony being another studio that doesn’t press a lot of copies for the US), then it’ll be available from overseas for quite a while after. Well, as long as people have the BBFC Decoder Box anyway

I could see Paramount doing a deluxe set for the 50 anniversay of TMP. Of course that won't be for another 7 years so get this new set while you can.

I can do without ever seeing the longer television cut. Especially if it is going to cost me $100 to do so. I would most likely only watch it once to begin with.

This is a major factor in my decision whether to spring for the UK version. Those badges are distracting and ugly.

Also wondering if the 1080 Blu discs in the UK set might be region-locked.
Paramount have never region locked a Trek Blu-ray and it won't start with these.

I've just pre-ordered the deluxe from Amazon UK for £60. Bit steep for what it is but that SLV is quite the cherry. I haven’t seen it for 25 or so years and can't remember how it flowed (or didn't!) at all now.

Will probably keep my I- IV 4K set and just add V and VI in due course. With all the effort they've put into TMP, I do wish Paramount could have shown Shatner's movie a little love, even if just to finesse the worst FX! But never mind

I haven't seen the new Director's Cut. Please tell me they didn't replace Stephen Collins with Hayden Christensen due to his past coming out.

Other than Widescreen do we know what the audio will be for the SLV, are we talking 5.1 like the Theatrical or a mono affair like the Superman Extended Cut?

£60 does feel like a big ask for the special longer version that effectively had the best bits not in the Theatrical put in the DE.

All of the packaging of the different editions is annoying the crap out of me with the individuals slightly less annoying despite being designed by 6 different people it seems.
