Anymore on this, hopefully Paramount are reviewing the sets and making sure the Theatrical has its rightful place in the single edition DE release and appeasing us fans but I doubt it.

hmm only the deluxe set has had the pre order removed, the DE 4k and Blu seem to be ok.

Deff has outstanding packaging but it will cost you, and they won't do an exchange for scratched discs. I found this out the hard way.

Since I also ordered the Complete Adventure deluxe box, the email said that was being delayed by a day, now being released on September 7th.

Since the standard DE now has no new date, I wouldn't be surprised if the box set get's pushed back further.

Honestly, I'm more excited for the special longer version than the director's cut now, thanks to the issues with the cgi, which is why I'm so frustrated that I have to spend $75 to get it. But it's a shame that the SLV will always be stuck with that borked space dock "fix" from the theatrical version. There's no reason Paramount couldn't have gotten this whole thing right. They've certainly had enough time to work on it all.

To me Amazon UK claims the deluxe edition is "temporarily out of stock".

In the product description the claim that its a 5-disc set is back.

Luckily I already pre-ordered the set. Haven't got any email from Amazon regarding my order.

They said they fixed the soundstage shot for the special longer version but if it's anything like the fixes for the spacedock shot in the theatrical cut and the lounge scene in the director's cut, I can't wait to see what they did with it.

Do you have information that confirms that? I know that the more cynical amongst us, me especially, have literally said that we don't think the SLV will be anything other than the extra scenes bolted on to the extant theatrical 4K transfer...but until we've seen it we won't know for sure. I will be buying it anyway

Yes, and “the extant 4K theatrical transfer” includes a borked attempt at a fix for the spacedock departure… which one hopes has been cleaned up (though I highly doubt it).

I understood that. I read his post. That's literally what I'm referring to above.

I say that having seen the Fathom Event for it. I rewatched some parts on Paramount+ but the app messes with the frame rate or something. It's too smooth.

I also think the opening credits make a terrible first impression and scream chintziness from the get-go, priming the viewer to be on the lookout for more inferior work. They demean the film. Intended as temporary or not, the theatricals' white on black were understated and elegant; the sign of a classy, confident film that didn't need to wear it on its sleeve. I didn't like the gold, fade-in style back in '01, and its flaws have only been magnified in the new, even mo' glinty rendering. I think they're the most egregious flaw in the new version, followed closely by the ungainly ascension of V'ger, a pointless shock wave money shot that takes the beautifully fluid blooming that precedes the re-emergence of the Enterprise--the culmination of the film--and gives it an awful, clumsy hitching.

Those spangly titles are as disco as McCoy's beard/medallion/chest hair combo. If they'd been done like that at the time or even in 2001 then it'd be part of the charm, but adding them in now makes it look really tacky.

Ha, yes. Now those credits are, like, "Damn it, Bones, we don't need them!"

Those black and white title cards were placeholders. The film as it was released in 1979 was unfinished. They delivered the film prints to the premiere and they were still wet from being scanned, it was so rushed by the end. Wise never got to finetune the editing and the VFX team never got to do all they wanted. Aside from two changes though, this is so much superior to the original cut. It flows and feels much better.

The two changes I dislike are: 1) showing V'ger. It was more alien and awe inspiring when we only saw it in parts, so big it couldn't fit on screen. But showing it does also make the V'ger flyover a bit more understandable geography wise. 2) Removing Kirk saying "viewer off" a second time. That was a really great moment in the original, having to repeat his order highlighted that his leadership skills were rusty and everyone was so shaken up they needed to be told twice.

Had everyone the time and resources, would love to have seen the credits Wise would've signed off on back in the day. It remains an accidental irony of their minimalism that the temp credits work so well, maybe because they imply that the film proper will do all the heavy lifting on visuals.

I don't get why Trek needs elaborate credits anyway. Several of the other movies make do with text against a black background or a starfield and I don't think ill of the movie that follows. Sometimes less really is more.

Dang. Maybe this really is as limited as Fein was saying? Though stuff sometimes dips in and out these days prior to release.

FWIW, my individuals from Bullmoose say they’re delayed with no new date, so I don’t think this issue is exclusively about the Complete Adventure.

…though with all of the headaches that Paramount had with Indiana Jones and even the last ST box having enough stock, I REALLY don’t understand the timing of these announcements if there are supply issues of any kind. Just hold off on the dang announcement until you HAVE the freakin’ discs. Otherwise you’re just begging for issues.
