Read 'Dark Victory' 'Long Halloween' 'The Killing Joke' and 'The Dark Knight Returns'. The Joker was a lunatic. Nolan and the writers wanted to make the Joker as 'real' as they could. Heath and Bale are about the same age. This means that continuing the Joker in other films wouldn't be that hard to do (Scarecrow returns in Dark Knight ) . Jack was in his 50s when he was the Clown Prince of Gotham.
I know but he was still a beast in the first one ... I doubt it would have been put up and then won an oscar had the Governator been in it, and had those comics or stories even been created when that movie came out ?

"Long Halloween" and "Dark Victory" were out in 2001 and 2002 so they are not that old. Also, Jeff Loeb's Hush seriers was out in 2004 and that was incredible. On an unrelated note, everybody should go read "Arkham Asylum" it is maybe the greatest Batman story I have ever read.

Hush showed a Detective (older & mature) Batman while Loeb's work with Tim Sale (younger Batman) shows a brute who can be mistaken and loyal to a fault. I just hope that the Dark Knight film builds up Batman and Dent's relationship properly.

Hey SuperSix14,

I maybe missing the sarcasm, but yeah they are. If you are a fan of the Bat movies, go read "Haunted Knight" follow that with "Long Halloween" and close it off with "Dark Victory". I promise you wont be disappointed. They are not kiddy at all. Two-face shoots his mistress in the head because she thought they were a team. The Joker shoots Two-Face in the face just to prove that he is more powerful. Good, dark reads, for any Batman fan.
