Of course, even though Lucas is going to make changes and say these are the way he always envisioned the movies, it won't be his vision long. He'll make a few more changes a few years later, even more a few years after that, and so on, until he dies. His original vision (if you can even call it such) is gonna change every few years. Period.

no period? who knows if he'll touch them up again...as far as we know, he isn't going to. of course that could change, but i dont think anyone on here can definitively state that "this is what it is."

Anyone that doesn't like George Lucas' idea of Star Wars can go make their own versions. I'm not a huge fan of the movies in general, but they're his and he can do what he wants with them.

Do these same people go to concerts and get mad if the artist doesn't play the song exactly like it sounded on the CD? They're raping your childhood too, by playing their songs the way they want to play them.

Although I would prefer a Blu set of original SW Trilogy cuts,is it true that they are non-anamorphic in the DVD set? If that is true i will not be interested, zooming and such is a pain in the ass and lessens the picture quality!

I have to respectfully disagree. If the director decides to change something that has been unleashed on the public, it's just common courtesy to release both versions. It's art, people paid for it sure, it'd be nice to release them with updates but I've never seen someone so hellbent on not keeping up with something.

Could you imagine if Led Zeppelin stopped selling stairway to heaven as it is currently released and re-recorded the song b/c they have better resources? Sure I'd like to give the new track a listen, however it'd be great to still hear the original and be able to buy it on any new medium that is invented in the future.

Let me be real clear, I'm not trying to change your mind or opinion, this is just my take. It doesn't make it gospel or right, just my personal preference.

i think that's the problem some people in here are having...we have to remember that we all stating our own personal preferences and opinions about the originals/SEs....no one here knows what is definitive and what isn't, we can only guess based on what lucas or others have said.

cmon guys, we all love star wars (i think), we don't need to be this uptight about our opinions we can all agree that we want the originals to be released on blu, right?

Star Wars on video had seen many versions of star wars.

DVD had see only the 2004 special edtion and that was released with no change only to have a second release with a second this disk that was an extra and a Laser Disk port for the originals.

I do hope george as now finished tweaking starwars and just puts them on blu-ray.

The only episode I want tweaked is Episode 1. The changes I want to see is less jar jar and a better looking yoda.

Nah, the next release will have a few more tweaks. You can bet on it.

Honestly, I prefer the newest versions. I'd only make one change....

Turning "You're lucky you got out of there." back into "You're lucky you don't taste very good."

I'm perfectly happy with everything else. And even the above isn't a big deal.

Well I respectfully disagree, even though you make good points. I don't know where the common courtesy comes from, because it's not like there's an established trend to be following.

I'd care more if Lucas was seeking out every copy of the original versions and was setting them on fire, but he's not. For people that want the original versions, they're still out there.

I'm not George Lucas, and I don't know what's going through his head, but if he decides that he only wants to release the newer editions with all the CGI changes and whatever else, then that's his choice. I'm sure he has a reason in his head as to why he'll never release the originals again, and that's his decision.

I wouldn't be thrilled if Led Zeppelin released a new version of StH (mainly because I don't want to them to unretire), but if they do and only release that version from here on out, that's their choice.

Artists own their art... or at least George Lucas owns Star Wars. If I don't like the new stuff they are doing, I don't support it, and I don't purchase it. But I never think that they owe it to me to give me what I want, the way I want it. You get what they choose to give, and you can take it or leave it.

Why do people want the movies on BD? So they look and sound better? How is that any different than what Lucas was attempting with changing the movies?

great summary toef...to highlight what i think are some of the key points you made:

-I'd care more if Lucas was seeking out every copy of the original versions and was setting them on fire, but he's not. For people that want the original versions, they're still out there.

-George Lucas owns Star Wars. If I don't like the new stuff they are doing, I don't support it, and I don't purchase it. But I never think that they owe it to me to give me what I want, the way I want it.

-Why do people want the movies on BD? So they look and sound better? How is that any different than what Lucas was attempting with changing the movies? (emphasis on "attempting")

The common courtesy is just out of respect of your opinion, I think people should be able to discuss things without being childish.

Part of me wants to agree with you, but the other part wants to say it's a simple demand issue. GL is basically telling us "this is what you want" by waving the force hand at us. It's not a choice between 2 versions of the movie, it's "this way or the highway" regardless of what people demand (when I say demand, I'm referring to supply and demand - just to be clear).

His proverbial thumb is keeping this from happening, regardless of what people want. Don't you find that odd? Sure he made the movies, I get that point. But if you have power, money, women & sugar (cheap Simpsons reference) why not "be the good guy" and release it to the masses. What harm is it? Does he feel it's not PC enough in today's world? Is he to judge that?

I don't want to philosophize all night long, but it stands to reason in a capitalistic society things like this normally don't happen. Dictatorships....well yes... You are told what is acceptable.

Maybe all this is for not and we movie lovers who want originals to be released on the latest medium will get what we want. Maybe it's a big marketing ploy and will drive sales through the roof in a few years...

In any case, I'm done with the topic. Cheers and no hard feelings.
