To me Criterion was spot on course until like 6 or 7 years ago. I say this but ironically in today’s announcement there’s 4 films I intend to get.

Criterion has to a of Japanese films for which blu ray releases exist in Japan and for which Criterion has exclusive rights to, and they just to sit on them. I understand they already have tons of Japanese discs that already out, but nobody else can put all the others out since they have the rights, it’s a bit frustrating.

Feel like a 4k Lynch set is inevitable sans Straight Story. Will Wild at Heart fall into Criterion's hands?

Believe me, you're not alone with those thoughts. Still, I'll give them October as it's a very strong month. Hopefully Samurai Rebellion, The Hanzo Trilogy, and some Hideo Gosha are not too far out amongst many.

I wish the covers would make it clear! Would it kill them to put a little "4K" or blu-ray logo in the corner box? Is it somehow beneath them to identify the format on the front, like a snooty restaurant that doesn't print the prices on the menu?

Genuinely happy for the people that are going to drop 20+$ on a movie they are going to regret watching or better won't be able to watch it till the end. Would have preferred it to be released by WAC, you would have spent 11.99 $ or less when it goes on sale, which is way too much already. Just having Cary Grant in a movie does not guarantee success, but you do you.

I’m with you. While I almost always defer to original art, I’m not crazy about any of those posted and I was never a fan of the art with Cary carrying Priscilla; it didn’t capture the movie at all. This new art feels kind of right.

Genuinely impressed that you may have the worst take I’ve seen on this forum all year long. That really takes some doing. Kudos.

What are you talking about? I think the movie is "laugh out loud" funny. It's supposed to be a bit hammy, like a stage play. I think it's great and quite dark/full of black humor for a comedy from that time period. The only thing I wish were different is they could have got Boris Karloff to play Johnathon.

When he keeps setting the bar, it isn't that difficult.

I love how in his world, everybody who's ecstatic about it finally hitting BD have never seen it

I was responding to people blind buying it because they see names like Frank Capra and Cary Grant in the description so they think that it's a must have movie for nostalgia or for the 40s era bluray collection completion sake.

As for the movie itself, I would say that if they would have removed all the morbid undertones of the movie, the movie would be on par with the old Halloween TV special movies done years ago on Disney Channel (Halloweentown 1998) same scale of acting or even worse

For the love of God, it's Cary. Cary Grant, not Carey. It says it right there on the f*cking cover.

A "Hannah and Her Sisters" Blu from Criterion, won't that be the day?

So with Criterion getting the rights to "Eve's Bayou", is it safe to assume Lionsgate is finally willing to play ball like WB?

Considering the movie's subject matter, are you sure it isn't Gory Grant?
