Yeah, there are 7 (!) discs to get all the TMP versions in (almost all ) formats

Theatrical 4k -- the 1-4 box or the 1-6 box
Theatrical BR -- the 1-4 box or the 1-6 box or the stand-alone
DE 4K -- Stand-alone or deluxe or 1-6 box
DE BR -- (Different) stand-alone or 1-6 box
old bonus features BR 1-4 box or 1-6 box or 2021 theatrical stand alone
new bonus feature DE 4K or DE BR or deluxe (this also contains the old bonus features)
SLV & Theatrical 4K via branching -- Deluxe only (no BR of this release)

If you want all with the fewest purchases its the 1-6 box and the Deluxe box @ $230 as of today.

It honestly could not be more simple.

I have the 4K and BR of the Theatrical for sale if anybody wants just those and doesn't care about the other versions of the first movie.

If this deluxe set sells well, maybe Paramount will give The Wrath Of Khan a similar treatment? One can never have too many stickers.

Studios love to sell us the same movie as many times as we are willing to buy it and this is Star Trek after all.

Umm we already know what the additional footage is as the SLV was released decades ago.

They could have done every version with 5 discs....

DE - 4K
DE - BR
Theatrical & SLV - 4K
Theatrical & SLV - BR*
New bonus disc has ALL extras (minus audio features on the movie discs.)

They could have done the 5 in a UHD case with no frills and the 5 in a Deluxe with all the swag. I would have already pre-ordered the no frills for up to $50 (final price.)

* This is the only disc that does not exist.

My only objection to this set is how the discs are stored; I HATE having discs stored in cardboard sleeves. A $100 set should provide better storage for the discs.

So long as the discs are unscratched the first time that I extract them from these vice grip cardboard sleeves I will get over the nuisance of having to transfer them to proper cases.

Since I have no personal interest in the SLV, I'm trading in my individual remastered Blu-rays of 1-4 (5 and 6 are from the earlier Blu-ray set and signed, so I'm keeping those for the sigs), and simply getting the 1-6 4K collection.

This gives me the Theatrical and Extended cuts of all 6 movies with all available special features in one place. The Blu-rays are for now, while the 4Ks are for when I actually get a 4K setup.

I recently bought a pack of 50 plastic sleeves from Amazon to use on my Digibooks....BttF 1-3, SM 1-3, ASM 1-2, Universal Monsters
......and they are awesome -- they slid in like butter and didn't stick out too much. Just enough to grab to extract when I watch to watch them.

I agree. I had taken many of my discs and put them in spare UHD and BR cases but I don't have the ability to print nice artwork and they take up additional space. So now they are back in their original packages and my (small) shelf space has some extra room.

Why do the whales get no love. Star Trek IV was the first trek thing I ever saw. It was thanksgiving break in 1986 I believe. I thought it was great. After the movie I rented some TOS episodes and noticed a big difference. But still was entertaining. I was 14 in 1986

It's a good movie for what it tries to be. I don't think too many people "hate" it.

Outside of hardcore Trekkie circles (like this crowd, apparently), the "casual" fans love the one with the whales. It apparently even did very well overseas where Trek has historically not done well.

The Voyage Home is great! It was nice, laid back flick compared to the serious tone of II and III. Plus the finale is just ridiculously good. Seeing the Enterprise A, when it's exiting space dock, hearing that original series theme, and then the warp out to new adventures cutting to the credits. Just awesome stuff.

There is not going to be a Blu-ray with the SLV. The 5 disc "Complete Adventure" set has:

UHD of "The Director's Edition"
UHD of the theatrical cut and the "Special Longer Version"
Blu-ray of bonus features
Blu-ray of "The Director's Edition"
Blu-ray of the theatrical cut

The 3 disc US version will have:

UHD of "The Director's Edition"
UHD of the theatrical cut and the "Special Longer Version"
Blu-ray of bonus features
