Did anyone upgrade their Arrow LE Blu of Candyman to the 4K?

If so, did you feel the upgrade was worth it?

While that Yorga set looks lovely, I can't justify any new purchase yet until I see any caps to see if the difference is worth it.

If it had been 4K I'd have pre-ordered without question. There's just so many 4K upgrades coming lately, many only shortly after the Blu-rays, I'm very meh when it comes to 1080p-only upgrades.

The Yorga set would be a no-brainer for me as I love the movies. But this worries me...

"Brand new 2K restorations by Arrow Films of Count Yorga, Vampire and The Return of Count Yorga from new 4K scans of the original 35mm camera negatives"

Should people wait for a UHD release? See what you're doing Arrow?

No, because they've only restored them in 2K and they're not going to re-restore them any time soon.

But 4K scans are already done... this is what Ste7en is saying. So while no proof in itself of a 4k release coming any time soon, it's a damn sight more likely than if this was a only a 2k restoration from the scan stage onwards.

I get that, but it does mean that it was a deliberate decision not to do a 4K restoration knowing full well that doing a 2K one and then having to re-do it would be more costly than doing it the first time. Either they don't think it's commercially worth it or they've had a look at the materials and don't think it would benefit from 4K. In either scenario, it's surely not something they'd U-turn on in the next 2 years.

This is another part of my pause, and why I say wait for caps. These were very low budget and the current discs aren't bad for what they are (which I presume is a 2000s scan from IP).

Still, even if there was no real boost in detail beyond refined grain, surely HDR could add something. They're maybe just testing the waters, as sales of the previous UK-only edition may not have justified a 4K but US sales just might...

As there are new extras, and new transfers, clearly, obviously they are not.

This was mentioned in the General UK Deals thread a couple of days ago. I just tested it and it works for me:

So how many titles from the 2022 teaser list do you think have carried over to 2023 or fell through ? Also what do you think November & December looks like ?

It seems obvious that Shaw Box 2 will be one of them for the Christmas gift market.

Looks like The Jokers in France are releasing Irezumi (1966) and Red Angel (1966) on 4K UHD. Probably only French subtitles. Pity that Arrow only put them out on Blu-ray. I also just ordered the Arrow disc of Red Angel (1966) today.

You’ve cursed it now.

They’ll accidentally use the old masters and have to issue replacements!

Just saw this too. Any chance we might get these from Arrow in the future?
Worst you could get the FR releases and add the Arrow subtitles yourself to create the ultimate anglophone version.

I think the French are getting a lot of UHDs of Asian titles in limited print runs. Maybe this could be an alternative for the US/UK market for smaller titles that are getting 4K restorations downconverted to 2K. Since Arrow and Kino often argue that the market for those is too small (e.g. Kino's recent Burt Lancaster VistaVision). I bet that a limited print run could actually make a lot of collectors bite the bullet and get such a UHD sooner. It works for Arrow's swag editions, and I'd argue it worked for Twilight Time back in the day for their uber-popular titles (I'd argue it would have worked for all their titles, had they chosen a lower price point).

Also exited about Arrow's Videodrome UHD BTW. I think I might be getting the retro cover version. I hope we will get all the classic Arrow releases like Society or Reanimator on UHD eventually.

Were we supposed to be getting Tenacious D In The Pick Of Destiny from Arrow soon? I was looking forward to that.

Worried it's in the same 'will it ever actually happen?' box as The Wolf of Wall Street, Inglourious Basterds, A Fistful of Fingers, and possibly even The Last of the Mohicans...

I'm sure there are more, what am I forgetting?

Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, which I really hope is coming, along with all those you mention, on UHD. (Well, maybe not Fistful of Fingers, but hopefully the others can be UHD.)
