Now the question for us audio lovers will it get the 5.1 DTS-HD MA treatment. Warner I think does a weak job on there audio with the DTHD audio tracks. Ever since they bought New Line they have taken the 7.1 DTS-HD MA for all the Blu-ray movies and turning them into DTHD tracks. There actually doing an 5.1 DTS-HD MA for Watchmen so for LOTR we can only hope. The audio on the LOTR DVD's with DTS was really good.

We need the 7.1 discrete tracks on this trilogy.

I have a stupid question - I think I have only seen the Theatrical versions of these films. What is the difference between that and the extended editions? Do the EE's really add anything worth waiting for? I thought the films were good when I saw them, but I am not a "huge" fan so I honestly could care less. I am just really curious as it seems to be a huge debate.

The core of the debate is more how New Line (aka Warner, now) are just milking this Trilogy, because they know people will buy the Theatrical Editions of the movies as well as the Extended Editions, when these have already been produced and released worldwide.
People would rather just have one release containing both versions, or even two releases to choose from, but from day one and not release the TEs first and make us wait months for the EEs. See?

Now, the Extended Editions do add a lot to the story, but nothing that makes it impossible to comprehend the whole thing.
I, having read the book, appreciated the additional content which was reproduced on screen. Some might find the extra scenes useless to the story, but it's a matter of taste, really.

funny observation.

we want the EE of the LOTR trilogy, but, we only want the theatrical version of the Star Wars trilogy..

sounds like Mr Jackson is better at adding things than Mr. Lucas.

I'll wait for the extended version. I've got DVDs that upscale nicely. When you're old, you get good at waiting..........

Same here =)!

When the EE's come out I'll might simply give one of my brothers the theactical cuts or just keep them anyway.
I got the EE's and the theatrical DVD in my dvd-bookcase so why not do the same with the blu-rays .

The release of the movies has now been officially announced, but has anyone heard what special features are to be included? I hope new material will be included.
