Not if you think about Big Fish.
That's probably his softest family friendly movie?

Yeah that is true, Big Fish was just bizzare

I like Tim Burton & Johnny Depp combi but they sort of missed on me with Willy Wonka and this pic seem way creepy, I will see the movie of course but it's sort of chilling the blood in my veins already

Just like with all of Burtons movies we will have to take the wait and see approach.

I'm still waiting for him and Depp to do something near the caliber of Ed Wood.

True about Willy Wonka, I know children who where scared by it
Oh yeah, forgot about his first Batman, it's sort of a family movie too.
There were some scary parts, but that didn't scare me as a 5-6´year old.

Yep...but to a point where it's now almost cliche...

I've lost faith in Burton, so we'll see what happens in the future.

He's become sort of a PG Marilyn Manson, who tries so hard to pull every "twisted" and "gothy" trick out of his old carpet bag for public image, he tends to go for the easy-road cliche's, and only succeeds in looking like a Big Fat Fake who's done a better job of convincing himself of it than us:
Only someone who's listened to his own fanboy publicity for years would go for both the Willy Wonka and Alice jokes, instead of actually reading the darn books.

(There are smart jokes to be found in both authors, if only one gets one's head out of the fumes, and takes the trouble to figure out what the writers were trying to accomplish--
Dahl and Carroll were both part-time children's authors who were more interested in the "mischief' of their hobby and knew the sense of humor of their audience, and if you think they were "on drugs", try reading the stuff sometime that came out of those who were...It ain't as easy a hobby as it looks, and only handled by professionals.)

I have to admit - a little Burton goes a long way and I'm kind of done with his take on famous properties. I'd rather see Burton doing original material (Edward Scissorhands, etc) - not taking famous properties such as Planet of the Apes, Willy Wonka, Alice in Wonderland, - he seems to be taking well known movies/stories and transforming them into his own vision - which I usually don't care for.

I think this movie has the potential of being a bit too dark/strange for the mainstream. Having heads bobbing in the moat seems to be a bit much.

Also, is this an original story as well (not following the books)?

Elijah Wood was my first thought, too. Sweet makeup, he'll make an awesome Mad Hatter..
