They also own/operate ImportCDs but I don't bother with them anymore.
On the whole, I've been happy purchasing from Deep Discount (only been a couple of items which had some damage to them, and sometimes there are loose discs inside the parcel, but it's not been very often the discs have been scratched). Got some Scream Factory titles I still have on the list of Blu-ray film titles I want to get from DD (as well as some Shout DVD releases of older TV series).

Some orders have arrived surprisingly quick (a DVD season set for example).

Not quite the same though. Do you prefer RZ's I & II remakes to the original H I & II? I don't.

No, because the elements to titles they control own are still tied up with the Concord/New Horizons sale to Shout. Doesn't help matters that there's bad blood due to that lawsuit.

Zombie's Halloween films are in need of Shout's help:

Halloween (2007) is in the wrong aspect ratio.

Halloween 2 (2009) is missing the giant making-of documentary that Zombie took part in.

Even if Lionsgate releases new UHDs, these issues won't be addressed.

Wasn't 2.35:1 the original aspect ratio for RZH? Know that Zombie hated filming it in that ratio.

1.78 : 1 (original/open matte)
2.39 : 1 (theatrical release) (matted)

Per Instagram, The Ninth Configuration is 90% sold out.

Still kicking myself for missing out on Communion. I only missed it by a few days as I was waiting for my paycheck.

I think he hated it so much he actually filmed the movie in 1.85 : 1 like Halloween 2. That might officially be mentioned in the commentary or documentary.

Zombie wanted to make a movie about Michael and the Weinsteins wanted him to make a shot-for-shot remake. It makes sense that 1978's aspect ratio would be a part of that.

I actually wanted to wait until September to pick up a copy of this alongside the Cat People UHD. But reading this on social media I immediately went to Shout's website and ordered "The Ninth Configuration". I also added "Going My Way" for free shipping. One more title for my Leo McCarey collection. I already have the Arrow blu of "The Bells of St. Mary's", but still needed the first one. Sequels from the golden era get less attention usually, but once you watch more golden age films you will realize that sequels still happened from time to time to cash in in a hit's success. Not to speak of all the b-movie serials.

I am wondering whether Second Sight will put this out eventually in the UK. I think their original UK blu is still in print. Provided they better Shout's transfer, I could even imagine to double dip.

Now I am one step closer to my goal of having the "real" Exorcist trilogy in the best possible format for each title: the recent Shout remaster for "The Ninth Configuration", and the Legion cut of "The Exorcist III" on Arrow's release. All that remains for me to be happy is a Warner UHD of the original "Exorcist" with good compression. Ideally with some new extras featuring Friedkin.

Rob Zombie wanted the film to be 1.85 (his preferred aspect ratio), but he was told by the Weinsteins prior to filming that it had to be in 2.35:1 to match the original. The film was shot with the understanding that it was going to be released in 2.35:1. The theatrical cut DVD and the Italian blu-ray present the full open matte (4:3 on the DVD and 16:9 on the Blu-Ray), but 2.35:1 is the film’s official aspect ratio.

Having seen both ratios, the 1.85 and 2.35 presentations both have benefits and negatives. Some shots that look way too close in 2.35 benefit from the frame being opened up (most notably shots of Michael in the third act). Conversely, some shots that are framed nicely in 2.35 have some awkward dead space in 1.85. My personal preference is the open matte transfer since it gives a more cohesive viewing experience of the duology, but (escape sequence aside), I prefer the director’s cut so I’m stuck in that regard.

Ah, I see.

Just curious, any screencap comparisons between the two ratios?

Computer’s at the shop atm but once I have it back and can dig the disc out of my basement, I’ll get some.

I’m excited to see what SF will release on UHD for the next 12 months. I hope most of its big titles make it to the 4K format.

My memory of Halloween (2007) is that an actor's head is obscured by the matte every other shot. I wonder how Zombie would feel about the change? There was a recent high-profile project that changed its aspect ratio because of the director's wishes.

Rob Zombie is like the most Shout-friendly director who has never gotten to work with them because of who owns his movies. I hope that changes someday.

P.S. I also prefer the DC, but the only dealbreaker cuts for me are Legend (1985) and Payback (1999). Plus Godfather III (1990), but that also has color/DNR issues. Every other cut I will begrudgingly watch if it's in better quality.

Just based off how he talks about the project on social media and the love he has for his films, he seems like the type of guy who’d dig the chance to go back and actually get to edit the first film how he wanted without the Weinsteins interference (which I imagine would include opening up the frame).

I wonder if there’s enough footage to actually split the film into two full-length segments like he originally wanted.

This is being discussed in the Deals forum, but Movies-Unlimited has lowered the price on the Halloween 4k Collection further. Current Price is $106.99 which still doesn't sound all that great I know, but they also have an active $30 off $100 coupon which brings the price of the set down to $76.xx. Shipping is free and after tax my total was $82.38. Still not exactly cheap but likely the lowest price I expect to find for a long time. I had planned on waiting this set out until at least the Spring but that price was good enough for me to bite now... If others are on the fence now would be a good time to lock in a pre-order.

That's not a bad deal. Ever order from them? I'd like to know how they ship before ordering.
