Boosted my TV contrast from 50 to 100 and it looks a lot better. I still shouldn’t have to watch this movie inaccurately though.

If you pee on an OLED, it might not get any brighter, but you'll probably void the warranty and shorten its useful service life, not to mention the shock hazard if you decide to sit down to pee....Tell others.

I think I peed on a plasma once, when someone told me Trolls was a horror but it turned out to be a childrens' cartoon that some adults seem to watch.....

I put my TV into vivid mode, pushed the colour to 100, turned on all processing and then sat 12 inches from the screen. I'm now blind and deaf but I feel it was worth it to experience such a potent presentation.

Anyway, I'm on a Mann kick for the weekend getting me ready for when this disc arrives. Started with Collateral last night. Love that one Gonna revisit Thief, Mohicans, and The Insider. May throw in Ali also.
Those five films are masterpieces (Thief, The Last of the Mohicans, Heat, The Insider and Collateral).

All jokes aside, it actually looks watchable now with the contrast boosted. Before I couldn’t see anything especially during night sequences. It’s like Mann set the contrast and brightness to low when he did that this transfer.

I've just had another look at this - I turned off dynamic tone mapping and it brightened things enough to call it nice.

The real question is, how the hell did you get my proprietary calibrated settings?

Now try watching King Kong 2005 4k uhd with that setup. Good luck and godspeed.

My take as a non-expert, with a 4K non OLED, non Dolby Vision tv (in case this applies to anyone else on the forum!): in my standard mode, this was too dark/flat, but in my slightly vivider preset (which isn’t anything extreme, much warmer and subdued than factory presets) this look nice. Stylistically, the film is a lot less flashy, more subdued and ‘steely’ in colour palette. Seems personal preference which you prefer - when I went back to the blu ray afterwards it seemed a bit too hyper stylised. With the 4K you also got a much nicer picture in all the other areas - grain was lovely and the blacks look a lot ‘firmer’ (when I went back to the blu ray, the night time scenes almost didn’t feel properly ‘dead of night’ anymore). It feels a bit like this is a great transfer and even possibly colour grade with just a few annoying niggles that mean it takes some annoying tinkering to get right.

Again, totally non expert opinion (either on Heat or the technicalities of 4k) so just providing a layman’s view.

Just finished watching it, and I don’t get the complaints about brightness. Other than the ASBL of my LG CX TV kicking in a few times during darker dialog scenes, it looked fine to me. The detail on the disc is phenomenal as well, handily beating out any version I’ve seen of it before.

It’s going to look different on each TV. For higher end TVs, the display will already be calibrated to look better than say a lower budget $500 TV. Some TVs will still need tinkering though. Shane from Spare Change has a X95K and even he thinks the transfer is too dark. On my Vizio, it looks to dark with 50 brightness and contrast, but boosting to 100 made a huge difference. Detail is now discernible and it doesn’t look dim or overblown.

That’s all you got. 2-4 movies that are remakes that don’t suck eggs. Not good enough! Best to watch new original movies like I said.

It actually doesn’t look like that though on 100 contrast lol. It basically looks as bright as the regular Bluray.

Same here, watched it last night and I had no brightness issues. Panasonic 820 player LG OLED TV.

Disappointed that Disney continues to master discs in HDR rather than Dolby Vision.

Even if Disney never bought Fox, the disc was always going to be HDR10 just like Alien and Die Hard.

Do some people have their home theater setups in their kitchen or something? Are your TV screens reflecting the largest window in your house with the curtains open? Do you have a lighting rig mounted on your ceiling and pointing directly at your display at all times? Is your TV in a greenhouse? Do you wear an actual spelunking helmet with mounted headlamps as part of your viewing attire?
