Why the hell would the original negative be in South Africa?

I wonder when we can expect this puppy to roll out. Anyone taking bets?

I'm already chomping at the bit for this one.

I'm very excited for a proper restoration of this, and having the extended cut as a restored alternate cut would be cherry on top.

Don't forget Curtains (1983). Some imbecile threw away cutting room floor footage like yesterday's trash

THIS. I bet that happened all too often, back in the day. We'd probably freak over all the cool footage from some of our favorite films that got scrapped for a variety of poor reasons, that we don't even know existed.

While I know it could be a very long wait, I'm still thrilled that Synapse landed this title for its 4k release. JBD has some seriously challenging aspects to its PQ, and I'm confident that Synapse will be more than up to the challenge, based on their small but phenomenal existing 4k release history.

The Final Terror is a movie I wish didn’t have a lost original negative, though Scream Factory’s blu ray looks pretty good, for being compiled from different sources.

Day of the Dead was largely financed by a South African firm. They control the copyright as well as any and all elements relating to DOTD.

I never knew that about Day of the Dead. So LAUREL was a South African company? Could explain why the film still hasn't received a 4K release. I wonder what Shout Factory used as a source for their 2013(!) Blu-ray. A remaster from the OCN for a 4K release would be a revelation, needless to say.

Laurel Entertainment is Richard Rubinstein's company based in the US. They are the ones Second Sight paid ransoms to get Dawn of the Dead and Martin from. Funny thing is Laurel owns most distribution rights to the former two (except in Italy, which are controlled by an Italian firm that also handles Dario Argentos output) while they only control international rights to Creepshow and Day of the Dead. Also worth noting Shout owns DOTD outright in the US due to the acquisition of United Film Distribution Company/Taurus Entertainment.

Shout's BD and all HD versions out there use an IP transfer prepared by Anchor Bay.

The biggest kicker with that was that he threw it away a year before Synapse started work on the film. The Poor guy had stored it for over 20 years and no one was ever interested in it so he decided to throw it out.

So, I guess Shout owns Creepshow 3 as well? Ooof. I'm not waiting for even a DVD reissue of that one.

Yeah this is Synapse lol they basically put out 1 title a year. We'll be waiting a while I think.

It'll be a quality release though, that much is certain.

A painful, painful wait, for sure. But hopefully worth the wait. This woods slasher is way at the top of my 4k uhd horror wants list. The existing, dated blu ray efforts leave much to be desired, and when Synapse goes to bat, they usually crush it out of the park. I’d love to see them drop each of Just Before Dawn, Living Dead at Manchester Morgue, and Tombs of the Blind Dead on 4k uhd, within the next couple of years. One can hope.

I love the slasher in the woods setting. The killers in this one always creeped out, especially the main one with that little eerie whistle. I don't wanna rewatch it until the 4K is released. So hopefully not forever 😭
