Looks like streaming has finally surpassed cable TV:
https://www.nielsen.com/insights/202...g-pie-in-july/ It's still behind live TV if you count cable and broadcast together though. |

I can literally subscribe to four or five streaming services, and each one without the 15-20 minutes of commercials per viewing hour that most TV channels force feed us, for less than what a half way decent cable TV package would cost me.

Cable and satellite TV are way more expensive and have way more ads than all other alternatives. They only continue to be as popular as they are because there are tons of idiots who have been subscribing for decades and just consider them to be a living expense.

YouTube basic offers the short form, well for a majority of content, entertainment & education that regular TV can skip. There is a reason some Ryan kid is a millionaire and why studios and record companies are using YouTube’s live streaming for promotions. It works. YT Premium adds the music streaming and no ads which again, if you wanna learn how to make a pot roast is a great thing. With regular TV/cable, you have to put up with Julia Child or Yan Can Cook then remember you have a DVR to record it and go back through steps you missed. YouTube and YT Premium? Rewind and fast foward easily, open the video on your phone/tablet/computer and you got a link in the description or comments to the recipe and ingredients list. Works just as well for travel tips where you can see the place in motion and have Google Maps links to where it is. |

It depends on the person. I don't pay extra for streaming services because, I watch all the free stuff, and I have an extensive collection of 4K UHD and Blu-rays for whenever I want to watch movies. The basic programming that I watch on streaming services are the old classic TV shows, game shows, court and talk shows. The local channels and news, I watch OTA.

I also refuse to pay good money to watch bad advertisements, which is why I jettisoned cable TV 8 years ago. I don't miss it at all. I certainly don't miss watching all of those erectile dysfunction commercials.
Between my disc library, streaming options, and my OTA antenna I've got it good. ![]() |
