I'm enjoying this, but finding myself having a hard time really caring about the theater troupe, despite it being so central to the story. I keep wishing for more of everything else and less of that.

I'm definitely not seeing the connections or similarities to The Leftovers, though, outside of the crew, obviously. That could just be because I hold The Leftovers in such rare air, I don't know.

Yeahhhhh It got my eyes watery not gonna lie.
But
[Show spoiler]I do wish there had been more to it. I loved the relationship between young Kirsten and Jeevan. I wanted more out of it, and the ending just felt so abrubt.

Started watching, I'm in episode 2 and so far I love it.
I really loved the book when I read it back in 2015 or 2016 and I was really excited when I heard they made an adaptation.

Changes so far - spoilers for the show and the book I guess:

[Show spoiler]1. Jeevan didn't have a sister. Not sure why they changed it since I'm pretty sure she's not going to have a major role.

2. Kristen and Jeevan only had a small interaction at the theater and that's it, then he went on his way. I do get why they made this change and that's because Kristen is the main character and it would have felt weird if she had been gone from the first episode, I liked that they build a sort of relationship between them and it does paint Jeevan in a better light. Since this part wasn't in the book, I'm looking forward to learn how they lost each other. The scene when Kristen learns about her parents' death was heartbreaking.

3. Kristen and Tyler didn't meet until the end, when we first meet the symphony, it's after the year has passed, but I'm guessing they want to have a little build up between them.

4. If I remember correctly, August wasn't crippled and Kristen and he were the ones who had a thing (I remember it vaguely), but I'm guessing that he's just a part of the symphony and Kristen is a lesbian/bisexual.

So far so good, can't wait to watch the other episodes.

[Show spoiler]Episode 3 was strange and I don't think I cared for all the changes they made, I thought Miranda getting to the boat was redundant, they skimmed through her story, skipped the abusive boyfriend, skipped through her line "I repent nothing", no beautiful death scene at the Beach... I guess they can come back to it later but her story is pretty much complete so I'm not sure what's going on here...

I finished this the other day... and overall I enjoyed it, but I don't see why people are losing their minds over it. Some stuff just seemed tedious to get through, and some came off pretentious. It was good, but I don't think it's a masterpiece like most of the internet does lol

[Show spoiler]Saw episodes 4-5-6 and I'm not really sure what's going on anymore, the show decided that it's no longer an adaptation and just invents stuff from now on and I don't care for it to be honest, I'm not sure what's the point of taking a book and just change everything. The book was more ponderous, more about reflecting about the things we lost, even the small things, the things that made us human, that made us a civilization. Here is a very poignant quote from the book:
Quote:
A deer crossed the road ahead and paused to look at them before it vanished into the trees. The beauty of this world where almost everyone was gone… Perhaps soon humanity would simply flicker out, but Kirsten found this thought more peaceful than sad.
It feels like the creators of the show probably thought the book was boring and decided to add some action. What the hell happened with "The Prophet"? In the book he was really a religious figure, he truly believed that surviving the pandemic made them special, I'm not really sure what he his in the show. Who the hell were the bandanas? Why are they necessary? Just a pointless addition because they no longer have The Prophet (not really) ?

Showrunner had long discussions with the author about some changes he wanted to make like the setting being Chicago. Gave the full blessing.

Did you finish?

I thought the final half of the season was fantastic.

One of the best shows I've watched. Lots of small details.

My god, I've never had a show move me like that and give me that moment. The song is so chilling and haunting. I've never heard that song in particular, but I've listened to a lot of songs similar to it from that era.

I downloaded it on iTunes and I can't stop listening to it.

Why is this only in standard HD? It looks to have been shot on film… This show is so good and deserves to be available in 4k IMHO. What do you all think?

If AppleTV had picked up this show, it would have been in 4K for sure. HBO Max needs to get it’s act together!

Why doesn't this one have a release, preferably a 4K one?

What a work of art. Such a unique, creative, intelligent take on the
[Show spoiler]apocalypse and what comes after
.
I've seen quite a bit of those (one of my favorite genres since... forever), and this is so realistic, never over the top. What's more, it is pretty often hilarious (props to Himesh Patel, he's fantastic - the only time I had ever seen him in a movie before this series was the "Yesterday" one). Can you believe that, given the context? But without ever easying up on the drama and becoming something different. The screenplay is incredible.

As a side note, being a graphic novel buff too (mostly Argentinian school from a while back, but also French or anything of interest), I'd have loved being able to purchase the comic book, even if the drawings aren't exactly my cup of tea

I sincerely hope this one gets a proper release. It would be a crime to relegate it to the digital world.

4K is probably out of the question since only WB does that, but it's produced by Paramount so it has a shot at getting released (like Hacks with Universal). They just might have to wait for a certain amount of time, depending on what the agreement is.

What a remarkable show. I started watching just a few days ago and have only two episodes left. I appreciate that this post apocalypse is merely the backdrop to a compelling human drama; I’m tired of shows of this kind that focus on the scientists and military actions. The strongest dynamic for me is young Kirsten, Frank, and Jeevan. In that way it’s akin to The Stand or The Leftovers.

This is getting a Blu-ray release from Paramount on October 18th! It might be a BD-R unforuntately, but I'm still so happy to see a physical release of this amazing show

Quote:
Synopsis
A post-apocalyptic saga spanning multiple timelines, this limited drama series tells the stories of survivors of a devastating flu as they attempt to rebuild and reimagine the world anew while holding on to the best of what's been lost. Based on the international bestseller of the same name by Emily St. John Mandel, Station Eleven stars Mackenzie Davis, Himesh Patel, Lori Petty, David Wilmot, and Daniel Zovatto, with appearances from Gael Garcia Bernal, Danielle Deadwyler, Timothy Simons, Caitlin FitzGerald, David Cross, and more. This 3-disc collection comes with all 10 episodes of the highly-acclaimed series plus exclusive deleted scenes.

Yep. I agree. I gave up when they jumped ahead to some crap about some actors in a park or some other garbage. It started so good.
