So, now with this announcement, Rudolph, and Frosty, I'm expecting a box set as usual?

Who's going to buy them individually for $20 each when all 3 together is $30?

Will the 3-pack have the same 3 discs or all they all combined onto 1 disc? If it's 3 discs, will they be stacked? I guess we won't know that until they are released but it's something to consider I guess.

Edit: It's listed as having 6 discs so the only question is if they will be stacked or will be in a 6-disc case?

It's a no-brainer for me. I'm buying the boxed set. Some people only prefer certain specials and not all of them so I guess that's why there are separate releases (just like the DVDs and blus). The question I have now is: to pre-order (which I really want to do) to have it immediately or wait for another GRUV code and sale (for BF) and possibly save a few more dollars?

Got my copy yesterday, (still waiting for Rudolph & Frosty)

This is one that I don’t think I’ve ever seen before.

I’m not really seeing anything in terms of film grain (just sampling a few moments) it has a very high bit rate. I don’t think there is any lost detail.

I didn’t pay much attention to audio specs for these releases, but English is 5.1 only.

Sadly this should have been an easy thing to do correctly by including the original Mono audio.

Keeps the release from being ultimate.

A good release that could have been great.

I assume Rudolph & Frosty will be the same.

No grain and 5.1 only, no original audio? Wow, they know how to please the fans.

The problem as someone already stated is that sound effects are sometimes altered/replaced or added, sometimes even removed. Sometimes the surround location changes are actually detrimental to the point it'd be preferable to simply have them all coming out of a single front speaker.

These remixes are the reason you have things like Psycho's new sounds LONG after Hitchcock is gone, and the reason you have dialogue coming out of the rears or all channels when the characters are on screen in front of you.

yeah none of that should happen if it's mastered correctly. Sounds like you're talking about bad 5.1 mixes, which aren't the norm.

It's pretty common in my experience.

I'm pretty much an authority on this special, and I'm almost 100% sure nothing is missing on the 5.1 track. I still wish the mono were included but it was in horrible shape

Mono is the original soundtrack. Often, new 5.1 mixes have sync issues, or have entirely new sound effects or in some cases missing audio or even missing lines of dialogue. New films of course are different because the original track is surround. For older films, mono or 2.0 is the only way to be assured it sounds as intended.

I know some recoil in horror at this sort of thing, but if I press the mono button on my amplifier, and fold it down myself, how different is it really from the proper mono mix?

Not sure. Probably not much. Also, the promo soundtrack was in stereo in 1970 on lp.
