Universal Studios Dracula 4K UHD (1931) - October 11, 2022

Universal will be releasing Dracula (1931) on 4K UHD on October 11th.

Quote:
The dashing, mysterious Count Dracula (Bela Lugosi), after hypnotizing a British soldier, Renfield (Dwight Frye), into his mindless slave, travels to London and takes up residence in an old castle. Soon Dracula begins to wreak havoc, sucking the blood of young women and turning them into vampires. When he sets his sights on Mina (Helen Chandler), the daughter of a prominent doctor, vampire-hunter Van Helsing (Edward Van Sloan) is enlisted to put a stop to the count's never-ending bloodlust.

The red and stylized font is definitely much more appealing. Is this a Japanese release?

Really don't know why these studios bother with making such awful Photoshop covers for classic films. The Blu-ray just used the original poster, so I guess maybe they don't want the new release to have the same cover art? But that's not much of an excuse given that the old release was almost a decade ago, plus the cases themselves are different.

Yeah, the artwork choice on these has me kind of stumped.

Maybe they think there’s some kind of marketing advantage to maintaining uniformity across all releases this time???

If so, I guess that means that the 4K Legacy releases (assuming there will be some) will just have this same artwork but with the border added like the Blu-ray and DVD versions?

If these had the vintage poster art similar to the Blu-ray individuals I would have pre-ordered these already.

As it is, even with the current 20% discount and a strong desire to want to support this release, I’m holding off and waiting to see if these drop to the $10-12 price point. Otherwise, I’ll just save my money for the Legacy releases. (If there’s ever confirmation that they’re NOT doing 4K Legacy then that’s a different matter)

It is. I found it on Amazon Japan. It was released last year, but I don't think it's in the Blu-ray.com database.

Yes, it was already released last year in the box set. Both versions 4K DV.

I made this image overlay to show how lazy the artwork is. It's a boring template. As you can see from the bottom, whoever made these covers cloned the exact same mist and put it in the identical place.

I don't think it's necessarily lazy to offer a consistent house style (they've had the same look since the 2014 DVD reissues), but they could at least change-up the character image they use for different releases. This image of Lugosi is the exact same art as the Dracula Legacy set, minus the border and a bit of gold colouring.

What was lazy was cloning the same mist onto 3 of the sets. The Wolf Man somehow escaped getting the exact same treatment.... they reversed the mist image for that one.

I like this UK BD slipcase with a still image from the movie. However, the steelbook image of Drac backlit by sunlight doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense.

It does have the virtue of having the poster art on the back though.

I wish they would have kept going with that line.

I love these films and want them on 4K but I'm so conflicted about buying these 4Ks, wondering if they'll end up doing a "Complete 30-Movie" edition as they did with the Blus. Part of me thinks that's probably unlikely, but I keep getting burned trying to second-guess these studios and their release concepts...

$19 on gruv.com and if you've never ordered from them, they have 20% + free shipping coupon.

Grabbed all 4 for $70 shipped after the discount + tax. Still not cheap but a decent discount if you want the individuals instead of the set.

Just want to clarify that the code, SIGNUP20, on Gruv is completely reusable, and not just for first time customers.
